MICHAEL MASLAND Obituary
MICHAEL STAFFORD MASLAND
September 3, 1972 ~ October 14, 2015 An incredibly kind and loving husband; an active, caring and devoted father; a loyal son, brother and friend; and an accomplished TV producer, died from complications from cancer on Wednesday, October 14, 2015. He was surrounded by his family and friends, and some of the incredible staff at Georgetown Hospital. Michael is survived by his wife, Katie; sons, Jack Bondat Masland and Jonah Lecompte; daughters, Elizabeth and Mary; parents, Bonnie and David Fish, Jim and Michelle Masland; brothers, Jim (Nathalie) and Jon (Monica) Masland. He is also survived by his many friends at Discovery Studios.Funeral arrangements are being handled by Collins Funeral Home. There will be a visitation on October 27, 2015, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m; followed by a Funeral Mass beginning at 10:30 a.m. Both are at St. Camillus Church, 1600 St. Camillus Dr., Silver Spring, MD 20903.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to an education fund for his children, NPR, or Christian Family Montessori School. Mike would probably also suggest that in lieu of flowers, subscribe to a paper copy of your favorite newspaper. I too have been a huge fan of ATLF for many seasons - the amazing Kicher family have brought years of fun, interesting , educational, & enlightening T.V. Viewing / I just saw Michael's dedication/ it must be rather odd to his family , friends & coworkers to get condolences a couple of years after his passing - but in some ways NOT, because it just keeps him more alive and remembered - so along with his other viewers I offer my sympathy to all who knew and loved him - -and I personally want to add I so enjoy all the hard work he put in to make such a great family friendly show ! /so darned difficult these days ! RIP Michael ! And thank you

Here it is October 2017, I have been a fan of ATLF since day one,and remember that season 5 was dedicated to Michael , and now watching reruns of Alaska the last frontier ( at season 5),, I still have those heartfelt of emotions of sadness for his family and ATLF family,,I pray everyday that there is a heaven and he is at peace.,which I'm sure that he is,,Heaven gained a Great Man,,,,,, 43 years old ,way to young and way to soon, we will see him again,believe that,,God Bless to his family and Friends...

I want to express to the loved ones of Michael Masland that "Alaska The Last Frontier" is a beautifully produced and directed program with an authentic and lovely spirit. All who have made a contribution to this educational and highly family friendly show, must be grieving the loss of Michael. My sympathy goes out to his surviving wife, children, family and the Last Frontier crew. As a former Segment Producer I know that our fellow colleagues are like family. I am learning that Michael was a very kind man, perhaps no higher attribute for which one may aspire to be in life.

I just saw the dedication on season 5 of Alaska The Last Frontier. We too live in an idolated part of the country...the high country in the Colorado Rockies and don't have cable so we are behind in receiving this news. Just heard of Michaels passing. I live in the UK and saw the dedication of season 5 of Alaska the Last Frontier series 5 to Michael and just wanted to offer my condolences. His work has brought my wife and I great pleasure. Sorry for your loss.

Sorry for your loss of Michael. He seams to have an amazing legend left behind,,& for those of us who have loved the shows he produced, we'll always remember him for loving that work. It sounds he has a beautiful loving wife, & kids to always keep his spirit alive, along with now millions of us that he has blessed with memories of his great work via Discovery channel.
I'll second that sentiment that another guest wrote today. With the power of God's glorious heaven awaiting all who believe in Him sending his Son Jesus Christ, we'll meet again in new purely healthy bodies, Praise God.
I learned of Michael passing from his mortal body, from watching "Alaska, The Last Frontier" TV series, & I've been paralyzed for 21 Years , but loved the outdoor, hunting and fishing, ( farming in the family history) my entire life, so thankful for his part in giving me the next best thing to being out there.He makes it enjoyable to watch year after year and I love that.

Just learned of your loss through posting on ATLF. I have sister , brother-in-law, son-in-law all fighting a form of cancer. I truly admire and enjoyed his work. His legacy is one to be treasured. God Bless the loved ones he left behind. We have our assurance from our Lord and Saviour if we believe in him we have eternal life. Therefore we will be re-united with those who have gone before us.

I just now had time to look up information on Michael after seeing the dedication on ATLF last week. I am certain I watch many shows that Michael was a very integral part of. I am also certain he is missed. I know his family is so thankful for the time they had with him while he was here on this earth. We never have enough time with our loved ones. I am saddened by their loss. Irreplaceable.

Michael is a person I wish I had known personally. I have been touched by his life because of his incredible work as a producer. A gifted man who lived, worked, and loved passionately and by doing so did something that every man hopes for - to leave his mark in this world. My prayers are with his family.

With my deepest condolences to his family and his friends. He was way too young to be taken from this earth. Cancer does not know age gender color or the fact that is your loved one and you are not ready to lose them yet. Just know in your heart that someday you will see them happy healthy with open arms to give you that embrace that you have so long for. I was watching Alaska the last frontier tonight on TV and saw that he had passed my heart started to ache remembering the ones that I had lost. I grew up like a frontiersman 's child--chopping kindling with a hatchet at 6 years of age was as natural as breathing. Still love the smell of pine like my "drug of choice". I just saw where Michael passed from cancer. I am so sorry to hear of this news! Michael did such awesome work and produced such great shows for Discovery Channel. I lost my Dad almost 11 years ago from cancer so I know what you all are going through. But Michael is up in Heaven with the best producer you could ever imagine...JESUS CHRIST.
