My Dad was Jack Fee... Lorna´s first cousin. I didn´t get to meet sweet Lorna until late in her life, but when I did it felt like we knew each other all along. Lorna had very deep eyes... you could look into her soul and just SEE the goodness! So if she had THAT great an impact on ME, think what she meant to her KIDS! Wow! My condolences to all my Colbert cousins on the upcoming anniversary of Lorna´s passing.

In 2008 I attended an audience screening of “A Colbert Christmas: The Greatest Gift of All”. I was seated in the front row next to an empty chair. When Stephen saw the empty chair he said to me “may I sit there?” My first thought was “his mom done good”. THIS was the REAL Stephen – respectful of and considerate to all.
Stephen's used his celebrity to give more of his time and money than we will ever know. Who else would have thought to use a broken wrist as a way to help others?
Lorna gave the first ever “Colbert Bump” to her children and you've all proven that it truly DOES work.
Your mom is a part of you and will always be there whenever you need her.

The Book of Proverbs describes the qualities of the valiant woman;like a merchant ship that brings things from afar, she shall not fear for her house in the cold of snow - qualities of Lorna Colbert. And so many others: strong in quiet faith and values which she communicated to family, friends, and those whom she served as hostess in a house that was truly a home in St. Louis,Brandon,CT, Charleston, and elsewhere. She lives on in our hearts with love and in our minds that see her goodness.

What an amazing life Lorna Tuck Colbert lived. Her devotion to her family, her unwaivering encouragement and support of her childrens' gifts and talent are an inspiration to all. How wonderful it must have been for her to witness Stephen's success and to know how wonderfully he continues to influence the world. She did a phenomenal job and leaves a stunning legacy. My Dad Rabbi Paul Ackerman died on the 14th. I share your grief and hope our parents meet up in the realm that exists beyond those Pearly Gates. Much love to you and your family.

I am so very sad to hear of Lorna's passing. My mom was Jeanne Bevier Trenholm, and we grew up always hearing mom talk about "my best friend, Lorna Tuck or my best friend, Lorna Colbert." When my own kids were ages 7.10, and 13, we stayed with your mom for a week in that awesome house on the battery. We were down for a family reunion, but spending time with your mom was the best part of the visit. She instantly made us all feel so welcome and I stood in awe of how wonderful and natural she was with children. My kids instantly adored her. She let them ride the elevator as often as they wanted! My mom passed away 5 years ago but I will always cherish the memory I have of these two wonderful women, laughing together over old times as they reminisced in your mom's kitchen. I hope they are doing that together now.

May the special memories of your very remarkable mother wrap you in her warmth.
Much love,
Candy Trenholm Anderson

While watching The Colbert Report, I have grinned many times when Stephen has accidentally stepped out of the persona he portrays. The beautiful tribute he gave to his Mom at the beginning of his show was a time his mask was lowered intentionally. Thank you for allowing your fans to share in your grief. My admiration for this Colbert family is unexplainable, as I really do not know them, but I wanted to send my deepest sympathies to all of you.

This came out of the blue for me Stephen, admittedly I have never watched your show or know anything about you, but your tribute to your mom was perfect. I don't know much about Lorna Colbert, only what her son has said on his show. What I do know is that she had to have been a great lady to have raised so many children. The world can see what a wonderful mother she must have been by the deeds of her kids. I personally have a lot to thank her for, Stephen Colbert makes it seem like there is hope for Americans and shows that there are still a few good people with their heads and hearts in the right place. I know there was more to her than her children but that's all I can speak to. I also know that nothing I say or think can make her death any easier for anyone, but I am thankful for her and my heart is very much with her family. God bless you all.

last night I saw the most touching tribute I have ever seen from a son to his mother.

Dear Stephen and family: my thoughts and prayers go out to you all during this time of loss. Both of my parents are now gone and I can tell you that it something you never get over, but somehow you get used to it. Your mother will make her presence known in the days ahead in sometimes surprising ways. I hope that when she does, you stop and realize it's her way of letting you know she's okay and happy being reunited with her loved ones in the Kingdom of God. May God give you comfort and peace in the days ahead.

To the Colbert Family, et al.

I didn't know Mrs. Colbert personally, but I am learning about her through Stephen and others in this guest book.

It is a remarkable story.

Thank you Stephen for painting such a beautiful picture of her life during last night's show.I have a wonderful picture of her.

I was touched by Stephen's very personal eulogy last night on the Colbert Report (Rapport,is more like it--He has it with so many people,) and I'm sure, every member of the audience on set, and the TV viewing audience, like me, felt the pain and his loss: It was certainly a loving tribute.

Your mother must have been a "wonder woman." She leaves a wonderful legacy through all she touched.

My deepest sympathy for your loss, and pray that you fulfill your dreams as she would have wished for you.

Thank you Stephen for showing grace under fire, so to speak, stopping the show to share your love, grief and what joy your mother brought to everyone in her lifetime.

Warmest regards,
Diane Scher

June 20, 2013

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

My heart breaks for the entire Colbert family, but especially for Stephen, because the love he felt was so apparent, and the man he became was because of a beautiful soul. Prayers to the Colbert family and a long motherly hug to Stephen, whom I've loved like a brother and hero since The Daily Show. I don't understand why I feel like I lost a beautiful, witty, classy aunt--but I do...

I was sorry to hear that the Colbert family lost its precious and caring mother. I know Lorna Colbert was well-loved and will be greatly missed by many. (My mom died 31 years ago, and was buried on the day her first grandchild was born. So, with the celebration of my nephew's birthday each year we are reminded of how life works, and all seven of her children fondly remember our Mom and miss her strong presence.)
