Parker Archibald Obituary

ARCHIBALD PARKER DUVALL ARCHIBALD (Arch, Sonny, Dad, Pop and Papa) Parker Duvall Archibald, 85, affectionately known as Arch, Sonny, Dad, Pop, Papa, of Westminster Canterbury, Richmond, VA, went to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 17, 2010. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Frances "Trigg" Holladay Archibald; as well as three loving children, Frances Mahaffey (Edward), David Archibald (Vicki), and Stephen Archibald (Connie); six grandchildren, Michael Mahaffey, Heather Dixon (Eric), David Archibald Jr., Holladay Archibald, Kelly Fletcher (Ryan), Nathan Archibald (Crystal); five great- grandchildren; sister, Florence Barrow (John); and a niece and two nephews. He was born on June 14, 1925 to Col. Edwin and Florence Archibald. He grew up in Maryland and then attended and graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI, now known as Virginia Tech) in 1948. In the midst of his college years, however, he began a career with the government by serving his country in World War II. He was married in 1949 and resumed working for the government in 1950. His career took him to various places around the world, including some time in England and Turkey. Also during that time, he earned a Masters Degree in Business Administration from George Washington University. After retiring in 1979, his interests led him to several different job venues including real estate. He was an active lifetime member of the Episcopal Church, most recently at St. Matthews in Richmond. His faithfulness to the Lord was evident through his service to the Brotherhood of St. Andrew and the Episcopal Cursillo and Kairos communities.Being of Scottish heritage, he thoroughly enjoyed studying and being part of the Saint Andrews Society as a member of the MacPherson Clan. Another of his interests was genealogy, and he studied and traveled to New York and Pennsylvania to compile his information. Before making his home in Richmond, he lived in Rapidan and Orange, Va. The time in Rapidan was spent in the peace and solitude of rural Virginia on a 28 acre family farm which was turned into a Christian retreat. He also enjoyed teaching Bible classes at the Orange Nursing Home and Orange Regional Jail. A celebration of the life of Parker D. Archibald will take place Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the Sara Belle November Theater located at Westminster Canterbury of Richmond. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Staff Appreciation Fund at Westminster Canterbury, 1600 Westbrook Ave., Richmond, VA 23227.A celebration of the life of Parker D. Roni Gilbert and her father and mother witness you as much as camera obscure to the pixel wall of law. Energy does not destroy itself, and Einstein says "imagination is power" - ah, the first amendment is so eternal.

When I was in Staples in Charlottesville, I told Parker about the Bible verse that reads "Lay hands on the devil, he is God's Servant, not man's, do no more." He had never heard that before - later I showed him the chapter in KJV - the month before I moved to California; I talked with him about my family and my love in California. He was at my parents 50th wedding anniversary and gave them a nice photo album for all of their children. I moved to California in 2001. This news about his death just arrived and well; God makes people, and he writes in stone and bronze. God is a record and he writes history, that is the winner. Proverbs 3:4 "God is Love"

What an honor it was to have had the pleasure of studying the Lord's scriptures with Parker on Saturday mornings. As a member of God's elected body, Parker is home with the Lord; rejoicing, celebrating and serving our King and Messiah. I look forward to seeing him again. Trigg, may the comfort, assurance and joy of the Holy Spirit be with you and your family. Ronald 'Bud' Butler

Trigg and family,

Unfortunately, I only knew Parker a short time, but feel very blessed to have been able to share in the study of God's Word with him on several occasions. I pray for His comfort and care during your time of grief, and know that Parker is sitting at the right hand of the Saviour.

Steve, Connie and the Archibald Family,
I didn't have the opportunity to know the original "Arch" or "Pop" but I wish I had. I can see from the photo where Steve got his smile.....and his hairline. Pop served his family, his God and his country and will be remembered and loved for that. As you celebrate Pop's life I hope you find comfort and a smile as you remember him. Pop and the Archibald family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Fran and Trigg and family. Your father was one of the most gracious men that I knew. Your father will be remembered by me from our days in Turkey and well as Virginia. I shall always remember our first meeting when I called to take you out during High school.. A scarey experience for any young man, but your Dad with that big smile made me feel right at ease, with Trigg by his side. I'll never forget him and look forward to our next encounter in heaven.. I am sure that he will be there to help open the door, with that award winning smile. My prayers are with you all.. Jerry

Trigg and Family: Janet and I are so sorry to hear of Parker's passing. The Ukrop's (Martin's) Saturday morning Bible study group was so blessed by his participation. His strong and deep Christian faith was an inspiration to me personally. We will miss him, but I know he is with Our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He has prepared and reserved a place in His Kingdom for Parker. God Bless you and keep you during this time of loss. Parker's brother in Christ. Jim Cocke
