You're never prepared to hear about the death of a friend, no matter how old you are. Kevin and I were best friends for most of our elementary school days and, like you Charlie, we spent a lot of time playing football and wrestling around at his house on many a sleepover. One of my favorite memories with him involved Jerry Gaines, another friend who lived next door, who loved when I would come over so he could try his pile driver move on me. Good times. I think. My head still hurts. As happens way too often, young friends grow apart over the years, which was the case with Kevin and I. But no matter how long it had been since we would see each other, when we did, it would be like we had never missed a beat. I will remember him as a great friend, someone who seemed to have so many different people want to be his friend but never forgetting the ones he already had. Tommy and Mo, your brother was my brother too, and it is painful to lose him so young. But our memories will keep a smile on our faces until it's our time to meet up with him in heaven. And maybe then it will be my turn to administer a wrestling move or two.

I spent a lot of my childhood with Kevin. He was a good friend. We always had a great time playing sports with his brother Tommy, and a crew of guys from Etchison. Unfortunately, we lost contact over the years and I was very saddened to hear of Kevin's passing.

My favorite memories were the "battle royal" wrestling matches we would have in the basement of the Cavanaugh house. They would always end up the same way. Kevin would try out some painful move on Tommy. I would kick both of them while they fought. Then Maureen would come downstairs and beat the crap out of all of us. I will never forget the backyard football games, the bruises from being tackled into the fence, and the toughness that this family represents. They are a great family. Hard working. Straight-forward and tough. I do not miss the chores and work around the house that Mr and Mrs Cavanaugh made us do, but I am glad that they did. The Cavanaugh family helped shape my life. I often think about fishing at their Uncle's pond. Getting chased by cows. Grabbing a soda at the corner store. Getting into some trouble. That Cavanaugh toughness, grit, and character is missing in today's world. I am very grateful to have known Kevin and call him a friend and I will throw an extra prayer up for him and the entire Cavanaugh family tonight. They are the real deal.
