GORDON STANGOHR Obituary


GORDON ROY LLOYD STANGOHR  (Age 96)  
Passed away peacefully at home in Springfield, VA, on March 10, 2017. He served in the US Army during WWII. He helped pioneer Forensic Sciences, specializing in handwriting analysis for the United States Government. Gordon was a loving husband, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather and enjoyed being with family, traveling, nature, landscaping, building construction, music, card-playing and living on the waterfront. He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Lois; children, Janet Poston, Jerry Stangohr, and Carol Flaherty (Michael); son-in-law, Frederick Verdi; seven grandchildren and three great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Linda Verdi; son-in-law, Stanley Poston; parents, Lewis William and Marie Stangohr; and siblings, Baby Ardis, Irene Myers (Raymond), Arnold Stangohr (LaVerta). Gathering to be held at Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield on Sunday March 19, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Village Square. The Memorial Service will be held at St. John's Lutheran Church in Alexandria on March 20 at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment in Quantico National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to the Alzheimer's Association, National Capital Area Chapter, 8180 Greensboro Dr, Suite 400, McLean, VA 22102 or St. John's Lutheran Church, 5952 Franconia Rd, Alexandria, VA 22310, in memory of G.R.
