C. Cook Obituary

Mr. C. Robert "Cookie" Cook, 76, of 1502 North Sixth St. died at 3:10 p.m. Tuesday (March 30, 2010) in Blessing Hospital. Born Jan. 4, 1934, in Barry, Bob was a son of Robert Ellis and Bernice Billings Cook. He married Bernadine "Bonnie" VandenBoom July 10, 1954, in St. Boniface Catholic Church. She survives. Bob was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Triple Oaks Club and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He enjoyed collecting stamps and coins and solving crossword and jigsaw puzzles and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals and St. Louis Rams fan. Bob loved helping others by delivering Meals on Wheels for many years and will be greatly missed by his pet dog, Baby Bear. A 1952 graduate of Quincy High School, Bob was employed in the mailroom at the Quincy Herald-Whig for 16 years and then for 25 years in the maintenance department at Moorman Manufacturing until his retirement in 1992. Survivors include his wife, Bonnie; a son, Robert William Cook and his wife, Helen, of Joshua, Texas; two daughters, Bobbette Marie Jenkins and her husband, Randy, and Cheryl Joan Goodwin and her husband, Lloyd, both of Quincy; eight grandchildren, Cassandra Jenkins, Craig Jenkins and his fiancé, Tami Crouch, Haley Goodwin, Crystal Cook, Ashley Cook, Donnell Cook, Christopher Howard and Amy Garcie; 10 great-grandchildren, Brendon Cook, Megan Thompson, Kaylee Thompson, Levi Sears, Zane Sears, Lexi Garcie, Baily Garcie, Taylor Ross, Jay Sherman and Kayli Crouch; a brother, Terril Cook and his wife, Dorothy, of Quincy; a sister-in-law, Wanda Cook, of Quincy; a brother-in-law, Bernard VandenBoom and his wife, Darla, of Quincy; and many loving nieces and nephews. Mr. Cook was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Walter Cook; and two nephews, Ricky Cook and B. J. VandenBoom. SERVICES: 9:30 a.m. Monday in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church by Msgr. Michael Kuse. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. VISITATION: 4 to 7 p.m. today with a parish prayer service at 4 p.m. and until time of services Monday in the funeral home MEMORIALS: Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Quincy Humane Society or Robert Cook Memorial Fund. ARRANGEMENTS: Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Condolences may be expressed online at www.whig.com.
