Margaret Arvidson Obituary

Margaret Peggy Allan Arvidson (Knox), age 82, of Weymouth died peacefully Friday, Nov. 18, 2011, surrounded by the love, comfort and care of her devoted family. She was the beloved wife of the late Herbert E. Arvidson for over 50 years. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth A. Arvidson and partner Richard Murphy of Weymouth/Florida, William R. Arvidson and wife Denise Arvidson of Lowell, Steven Arvidson and wife Susan of Weymouth, Ellen (Arvidson) Obin and Frank Obin of Weymouth. Also survived by grandchildren, Peter and Crystal Obin, William Arvidson Jr., Erin (Arvidson) and Jeff Bandini, Erik Arvidson, Christopher Arvidson, Anne Marie Obin, Heather Obin and great- granddaughter Isabella Arvidson, her sister Marion Jacobson of Weymouth and many nieces and nephews scattered through the U.S. Since retiring from MIB, Peggy was very active in a number of civic and community organizations. She was a lifelong member of Rainbow and the Eastern Star, holding many offices over the years and was a Friend of South Shore Hospital. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Craft Exhibit at the Marshfield Fair. Peggy loved to dance and could be found enjoying the company of her many friends at the Whipple Senior Center, the Viking Club and the Hull Pavilion. Family was the center of Peggys life; she relished annual gatherings at her home where the door was always open. She enjoyed celebrating her Scottish heritage by taking many road trips around the country to attend the Highland Games. Peggy fastidiously researched the family genealogy which she loved to share as she traveled the US, Canada and Scotland to visit extended family and friends. Her recent trip to Scotland was a highlight of her many travels. Peggy was a talented seamstress who for many years worked for local bridal shops. She especially delighted in creating beautiful gowns for family and friends. Just last week, she completed alterations for her granddaughters wedding. Known to all as Gram, Peggys passing leaves a void in the lives of her family and friends. Her friendship, love and devotion to all who knew her will be her legacy. Family and friends were invited to attend the visiting hours Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the C.C. Shepherd Funeral Home, 134 Pleasant St., (Columbian Sq.), Weymouth. A Celebration of Life service was held in the funeral home Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. Memorial donations in Peggys memory may be sent to Dana Farber Cancer Center at South Shore Hospital, 101 Columbian St., South Weymouth, MA 02190 or South Shore Visiting Nurse Association and Hospice: 100 Bay State Drive, Braintree, MA 02184. To the Arvidson Family,

I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. Peg was indeed a “Special Lady” who always invested her time to help others. Her door was truly always open to friends, and there was always room in her heart for a new one. I consider myself blessed to have known her. She will be missed by all who had the opportunity to meet her. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sincerest condolences,

Peggy was a dear friend of mine from Order of Eastern Star. When I first took a star point, I got to walk into the room just behind Peggy, and she always had good reminders for me to keep me focused. She never forgot to ask about my kids and their interests, she was truly a wonderful person, and I loved having her as a friend. Peggy, you will be missed by so many...May God hold you in the palm of his hand. Love Lynn Zopatti & Shirley Burrows

Peg was a wonderful woman. I looked forward to seeing her every August at Marshfield Fair. I can honestly say she was one of the most hard working and dedicated volunteers I have ever had the pleasure of working with. Karen Biagini, Director - Marshfield Fair
