James Britt Obituary

James Albert Britt LYNCHBURG - James Albert Britt, 88, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009. He was the husband of Charlotte Baker Britt. Mr. Britt was born Friday, July 22, 1921, in Jacksonville, Fla., a son of the late Wesley Lee Britt and Lucille Fryer Britt. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from farming and was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephen James Britt and wife Deanna of Evington, Gary Paul Britt and wife Judith of Mechanicsville, and Carol Cole and husband Ronald of Lynchburg; five brothers and sisters, Gordon Britt and Mary Lou Ham, both of Florida, Vera Rowland of Texas, Eleanor Regan and Ruby Pope, both of Tennessee; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley and Robert Britt. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, (434) 237-9424. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. James D. Newman officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16. Memorial contributions may be sent to West Lynchburg Baptist Church, 3031 Memorial Ave., Lynchburg, VA 24501. Jim will be greatly missed by all of the family. He was one of the ICONs at the reunions. He was a loving man with concern for others and we will never forget Mr. Jim. My prayer is that God will comfort all of his family in this time of loss.
