James Albert Britt LYNCHBURG - James Albert Britt, 88, died Friday, Sept. 18, 2009. He was the husband of Charlotte Baker Britt. Mr. Britt was born Friday, July 22, 1921, in Jacksonville, Fla., a son of the late Wesley Lee Britt and Lucille Fryer Britt. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He retired from farming and was a member of West Lynchburg Baptist Church. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephen James Britt and wife Deanna of Evington, Gary Paul Britt and wife Judith of Mechanicsville, and Carol Cole and husband Ronald of Lynchburg; five brothers and sisters, Gordon Britt and Mary Lou Ham, both of Florida, Vera Rowland of Texas, Eleanor Regan and Ruby Pope, both of Tennessee; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Wesley and Robert Britt. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, (434) 237-9424. A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21, in the chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. James D. Newman officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park.
