Carol Crutsinger Obituary

Carol Ann Crutsinger VIRGINIA BEACH - Carol Ann Crutsinger, 78, passed away peacefully Sept. 19, 2010 in Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Carol was born in Worcester, Mass., and was the daughter of the late Ralph Frank Sampson and Katherine Louise Sampson. She attended Granby High School and graduated from DePaul School of Nursing in 1952 as class president. Carol dedicated her life to her husband and five children, instilling the important values of faith, family, laughter and love. She worked alongside her husband Bob at his auto repair business and later assisted him with his successful real estate career. She enjoyed traveling, working in her yard and just sharing a cup of coffee with anyone who would happen to stop by. Her greatest pleasure came from spending time with her family. She loved to dance, sing and join in musical jams with her children and grandchildren. A very caring wife, mother, and grandmother, she was deeply loved by all who knew her. She had a way of touching everyone's heart that she met, making them feel welcomed and loved. Carol is survived by her loving husband and best friend of 57 years, Robert R. "Bob" Crutsinger; her five children, Mary Louise Gayle, Barbara Ann Wood and husband Joe, Robert F. Crutsinger and wife LaDona, Catherine Elizabeth LaBranche and husband Richard, and Patricia Marie Smith and husband Cecil; and her sister, Doris Sampson Tasch. She was predeceased by her brother, James Sampson. Also surviving are 15 wonderful grandchildren and one great-grandchild. The family would like to express our deep gratitude to the dedicated nursing staff at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital ICU stepdown as well as the radiology staff who so compassionately cared for mom. A special thanks to Dr. Steven Pearman and Dr. James Rawles. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. today at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 1968 Sandbridge Road, Virginia Beach. The burial will follow at Princess Anne Memorial Park. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is in charge. Online condolences may be made to the family at hdoliver.com. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
