Lois Frias Obituary

Lois M. Frias VIRGINIA BEACH - Lois McGlaughon Frias passed away peacefully Sept. 25, 2010 in Virginia Beach surrounded by her family. She was born on April 19, 1921 in South Norfolk to John O. McGlaughon and Mary Eugenia McGlaughon. Lois spent her entire life in the Tidewater Virginia area. She graduated from South Norfolk High School and shortly afterward married her lifelong love, Fleatwood Morris Frias Jr. and after World War II they settled into the Norfolk area and Fleatwood (Red) went into the grocery business. Following her marriage, she took great pride in her role as a homemaker, wife and mother. She was a superb cook and passed that trait on to her daughters. Lois' love and devotion to her family was evidenced by her willingness to host her family's annual Christmas night dinner, often entertaining more than 60 family members and guests for this special occasion. So special was this event that The Virginian-Pilot featured this family tradition in one of its Christmas editions. Those who knew Lois will remember and treasure the qualities that defined her most. She lived her life to care for her husband and family and those who were around her would attest that taking care of her family was her life's goal. She succeeded at every level. She is survived by her husband, two daughters, Lois F. Walter and husband Tom of Raleigh, N.C., and Claudia F. Cummings and husband Jim, of Virginia Beach. She is also survived by six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. A church service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Foundry United Methodist Church, 2801 Virginia Beach Blvd., by the Rev. Dr. Patricia Riggs. The family will receive friends at the church immediately following the service. Subsequently, a family graveside service will be conducted. If desired, contributions may be made to Foundry United Methodist Church or a charity of one's choice. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, is handling arrangements and online condolences may be made to the family at www.hdoliver. com.

Claudia, I am so blessed to have known your beautiful, charming, and caring mother. I know that you will miss her greatly, but she is now with our loving Father God. I remember Red saying that if he and Lois started naming all the blessings God had given them, they would never come to a stopping place! What wonderful memories!
