Eunice Bryant Obituary

Eunice Mae Bryant NORFOLK - Eunice Mae Bryant, 74, of the 200 block of Corporate Blvd., was called home to be with the Lord Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010 at a local hospital. She was born Dec. 8, 1935 to the late John Haskins and Mary Butts. She was the widow of James A. Bryant and James M. Billups. She was also predeceased by three brothers, Willie Haskins, Louis Butts and Alexander Butts; and one sister, Patricia Butts. Eunice was a caregiver for many years and retired from the nursing profession in 1993. She often shared her home and family with the patients who were in her charge. Not wanting recognition or reward, her giving spirit was an example for all of us. She was a faithful member of New Life Worship Center in Norfolk where she loved her pastors. The church and its members were very dear to her and she worked diligently on the Usher Board, was president of Pastor's Aide, choir member, one of the Mothers of the church and other committees. For many years she was active as an Eastern Star and Order of the Tents. Eunice leaves heart-filled memories to those who knew her. She lives on in the memories of her five daughters, Mary E. Taylor (William), Michele Billups (Elliott), Renita Martin (Gerald) of Norfolk, Debbie Foreman (Isiah) of Chesapeake and Vernice Smith (Ron) of Midland, Ontario, Canada; four sons, James M. Billups (Mary) of Norfolk, Gary S. Billups (Angela) of Chesapeake, Don Billups (Donna) of Covington, Va., and Jermaine Burke of Norfolk; three sisters, Gracie Sherman of Newport, Ky., Harriett Foreman of Chesapeake and Pauline Robinson (James) of Norfolk; 25 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The celebration of life will be held Wednesday, Oct. 20, at 11 a.m. in New Life Worship Center, 925 Briar Hill Road, Norfolk, by pastors Carl and Barbara Vann. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be at Fitchett Funeral Home Tuesday from 1 to 7 p.m. Condolences can be offered to the family at www.fitchettfuneralhome.com. The family will be lining up and receiving family and guests at 962 Marshall Ave., Norfolk. The family also wishes in lieu of flowers, donations be made to New Life Worship Center's Building Fund.
