Genita Jackson Obituary

Genita H. Jackson PORTSMOUTH - Genita Maria Harrison Jackson, 55, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. She was born in Portsmouth Oct. 17, 1955. Genita was a 1973 graduate of Cradock High School in Portsmouth and a 1977 graduate of St. Augustine's College, Raleigh, N.C. She was a dedicated employee with the Broward County public school system for 13 years and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated. Her passion for educating future generations was unsurpassed. She was loved by all and she will be truly missed. She was predeceased by her father, Robert G. Harrison Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband of 32 years, Felix J. Jackson Sr.; two sons, Felix Jr. and Nicholas; mother, Dorothy B. Harrison; sisters, Linda H. Washington, Robin M. Harrison; brother, Robert G. Harrison Jr.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Melba Jackson and Ernest Jackson; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. A celebration of her life will be held at noon Monday, Nov. 8, at St. John Baptist Church, 2200 Effingham St., Portsmouth. Interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake. Arrangements will be handled by Pretlow & Sons Funeral Home, 500 Liberty St., Chesapeake, VA 23324. You may offer your condolences to the family at www.pretlowandsons.com.

May God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. Benita was a wonderful childhood friend. I will always remember our times at Douglas Park Elementary School. I will truly miss her.

To the Harrison Family,
I was sadden to hear of the death of Genita. As children we play together and one of us is call home because Mom has something for us to do. It's like that in life. Genita time was done here with us and God called her home. We love her But God loved her more.
