Rose Mary was born at home on April 12, 1935, the youngest child of Caspar and Naomi (Kratochvil) Melichar in Traverse City. She attended Traverse City schools and graduated from Central High School in 1953.
On Dec. 18, 1960, she married Kenneth Leroy Darrow. Ken and Rosie made their home in Traverse City and raised four children.
In 2001, Rose Mary moved to Boyne City and worked full time as a Wal-Mart Associate in Petoskey. She was a member of Trinity Fellowship Church.
Rose Mary inherited her father's ability to fix just about anything and her mother's compassion for animals. She loved Jesus, her family, the piano, all sorts of puzzles, and was a great fan of hamburgers, chocolate and pizza.
We will miss her bright smile, her sharp wit, her extensive vocabulary and her simple faith in God's promises. In the months preceding her death, Rose Mary was an example of confidence in God's faithfulness as she battled lung cancer.
She will be missed by her children, Patricia Darrow Draper of Grand Rapids, Suzanne (Paul) Wise of Boyne City, William (Patricia Fehrenbach) Darrow of Traverse City and Christina (Michael) Majszak of Traverse City; sister, Dorothy Alderton of Traverse City; brother, Howard Melichar of Traverse City; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many cousins and friends.
Rose Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Ken in 2000; parents, Naomi and Cap; brother, Jack and infant brother, Donald; and nephew, Dan Melichar.
A visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, at Stackus Funeral Home in Boyne City. Funeral services for Rose Mary will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Trinity Fellowship Church, 401 Sate Street, Boyne City, with visitation being held from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Her son-in-law, the Rev. Paul Wise, will be officiating.
On Monday, Jan. 12, 2009, Rose Mary's and Ken's remains will be laid to rest together at Oakwood Cemetery in Traverse City.
Arrangements are by Stackus Funeral Home, Boyne City.

To "Rosie's" family:
My late wife (Pauline Brigham) and I graduated from Central with Rosie. She and Pauline were good friends all the way back to Union Street School and apparently had some good times together. I knew Rosie only in High School, as I was a product of Elmwood School, and was always reminded that Union was certainly the better of the two. Rosie was one of those rare persons that was a serious student, dependable, and consistantly friendly. Please accept my sincere condolences on your great loss. I expect she and Pauline are enjoying the presence of our Lord together.

I spend winters in Florida and summers in Traverse City.
I am remember the good times we used to have, Rosemary always had a positive attitude and enjoyed life and that is what counts.
