My brother and I were groundskeepers for the New River Rebels in Narrows, Va. ( 1946-1951 ) Jack Crosswhite was the manager and he brought many Roanoke area baseballers to our small town. To name a few...Harry Crosswhite, Harry Bushkar, Richard Callison, Bernard Graybill, Bob Hall, and your husband,Dad and grandfather...Paul Johnston. We could relate to these much easier than with the athletes who came from "faraway places" such as Chicago and Brooklyn. They sorta' took us under their wing and helped us, especially on road trips. Most all are gone now...but I'll never forget any...

Wilma and family: Bill has great memories of when he and Paul played baseball for the Salem Rebels. He was a good friend. So much so that Bill had him as his best man when he and I married in Sept. of '56. Bill will miss visiting him when we come back to Salem to visit. Holding you in our prayers. Bill and Sarah Wing
