He was my mentor and the reason that I moveed to Burlington, NC 21 years ago.He was a great leader and all of the Shoffner Industries employees are forever indebted to him. Gary was very instrumental in my move to Burlington in late 2000. I worked very closely with him for the next couple of years. He was so gracious and patient with his time. He also always knew when it was time to stop working and go spend time with your family. Nothing in life meant more to him then his family. He did not measure his success by what he accomplished at work even though he touched the lives of so many through the leadership and examples he set while at work. But when it was time to become Dad, or Husband, or recently Grandfather his face would light up with a big smile, his chest would fill with pride as he was always willing to share the latest stories of those who made his life so blessed.
Those of of us who worked for Gary were fortunate. His high moral standards and sharp business mind provided so many the opportunity to provide for their families and has set an example for us all to take forward.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Laura, Matthew, Adam and the rest of the family.

I was fortunate to work for Gary for 18 years until his retirement in 2001. He was a great businessman, but it is his devotion to his family that I will always remember. The driving force in his life was to provide and care for his wonderful family . I'll always remember how his eyes would light up with joy and love when speaking of Laura, Matt, and Adam. "Proud" and "loving" does not begin to describe how strongly Gary cared for them.
While he was committed to his work, he always supported and encourgaged us to follow his lead in our dedication to our families. We were blessed to work for a man who not only understood family values, but shared them with us. Both my family and myself will be eternally grateful to him and the examples that he set.
