Earl was a great guy and a wonderful scout. I know he loved the boys and was willing to do what he could for them. Troop 2 will really miss him.

I'll never forget Earl. He always had a story to tell me and his heart was in the right place. It was amazing how he cared for his sister during her illness and I will always admire him for that. I'm glad I knew Earl and my thoughts and prayers go out to all of the family.
God bless each of you,

I met Earl more than 30 years ago when my son became a Boy Scout. Over the next few years, we developed a close, and lasting, friendship.
Earl devoted a large part of his life to Scouting, and, in the process, touched the lives of many boys and adult Scouters. Earl once told me that he would never be able to give back to Scouting what he had gotten out of it...it helped keep him thinking young.
He was an accomplished outdoor cook...many a Scout who never cared much for green beans wound up asking for seconds. In 2008 Earl and I taught an outdoor cooking class for Roanoke County Parks & Recreation.
Earl was there to comfort me at the death of my daughter, Kym, and my wife, Elaine. Later, when I re-married, he welcomed my wife, Anne, and her extended family into his life.
My new brother-in-law and some friends have a hunting camp near South Hill, VA. Stratford invited Earl and me down one November, and the members fell in love with Earl. They would place an order for the meal they expected to come out of the dutch ovens when they got back from hunting. Earl always obliged.
We went to more Scout activities together than I can count, and almost as many that weren't Scout related.
The last trip we took together was to the Order of the Arrow conclave on the Rappahanock river. Earl was not feeling well, but was determined to attend, and I'm so glad I was able to take him.
Earl was a good man. I will miss him mightily.

THE NURSES AT FRANKLIN MEMORIAL, MED\SURG, WISH TO EXPRESS OUR CONDOLENCES. IT WAS OUR PRIVILAGE TO HELP CARE FOR EARL DURING HIS ILLNESS. EARL WAS BRAVE AND STOIC, HE KNEW WHERE HIS SOUL WAS BOUND AND HE WAS AT PEACE WITH IT. YES, HE CERTAINLY FOUGHT THE GOOD FIGHT, AND NOW HE IS IN THE ARMS OF HIS LORD. GOD BLESS!!
