My wife, Sherrion Pugh Struppler is interested in genealogy and found out some time ago that she and Mr. Short's mother, Ms. Gray, are distant cousins. Once again, my thoughts are with you all.

Short Family,
My prayers are with you today. I attended WBHS with Russell and was one of 6 couples that hung around together for many years on SML. As we all went our separate ways, I continued to bump into Russell at many functions. Russell was special, he always had time to talk even tho he was a busy man.I have nothing but good things to say about your father. He was one of the most respected business men I ever knew and a true gentleman.

Dear Janet,

Russell was my childhood buddy. He taught me how to play cards, marbles, and monopoly.(of course, he won most of the time!) Playing cowboys and Indians was a favorite pasttime - him with his 6-shooter cap pistol and me with my bow and arrows I whittled from a weeping willow tree. That is, until Aunt Muriel, his mom, made me a cowgirl outfit complete with my own 6-shooter. We would twirl those guns and compete to be the fastest draw. We would try to do rope tricks with our lassos. We would play mumbleypeg (I have no idea how you spell it!) It is a knife throwing game that works something like Twister in a way. Parents now, would have a heart atack at the thought of some of the things we did as play.
Russell built a tree house high in a tree in his backyard. Of course, I went up to play in it. I thought I was never going to get down. It took a lot of encouragemet from his mom to coax me down that tree. I think that was about the time I got my first pair of jeans ---a pair of his.
It was on his 20 inch bike that I learned to ride. It was my horse that he liked to ride. It would make him sick just about every time but he loved to ride her.
I loved Russell more than he or anyone else knew. He was the brother I didn't have.
Of course, as we grew up our lives took us in different directions but I will always cherish the time we had together.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Russell, your family, and the fine folks who worked with you. Your hard work, dedication, and honest business ways set a mighty high bench mark for all of us that are left to follow your lead in the valley. Your big hand shake and a slap on the back made us all feel a little better when on a job with you. See you later on my friend -
