To the family of Spc. Troy C. Linden:
As you may know, the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation has honored your loved one at its Memorial Day Sunday worship service (each year in May) … since the time of your fallen hero's ultimate sacrifice. We will continue to pay tribute to our nation's veterans … lest we ever forget!
Now we would like to honor you … as the next-of-kin … who have also paid a great price on the altar of liberty. On Sunday 29 September at 11:00 a.m. we will host a Gold Star Family Sunday.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship … as we pay tribute to your sacrifice. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain (Colonel-Retired) Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “By Dying, We Live.” The special music will be the husband/wife vocal/piano — Wickman Duo. Following the worship experience, your family is invited to attend a social time in our Fellowship Hall … with some light refreshments.
As this historic chapel has limited seating, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.
Respectfully,
Leila Campbell

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Linden Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

To the family of Spc Troy C Linden:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Memorial Day Sunday worship service at 11:00 a.m. on 29 May 2011. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the neighboring states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 200 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one. The Memorial Garden’s perimeter will be manned by members of the Patriot Guard and a honor guard from AMVETS Post #1 of Mendota will be posted at the entrance.
The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars in United States history and give honor to all who have served their country and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of our nation’s wars.
I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain Col. Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “A Believer’s Look at War.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the memorial garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel.
As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/456-4410) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans’ name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/456-4410) or email ([email protected]) the office and leave your name and contact information.
Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Sat 28 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sun 29 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one’s cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.
If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

Troy touched my life in a roundabout way...My son was his friend. I still cannot forget that smiling face. I just watched a movie called "Taking Chance" and it brought me right back to that day. I believe he is missed more than anyone will ever know...Even by some that hardly knew him. My thoughts go out to his mother every day.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Troy, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.
REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

this is a poem i wrote...in rememberance
July 8th will mark the calender
when we lost our loving Troy
we knew how hard the "firsts" would be
without this special boy
The first few months were foggy
we stumbled through the haze
at nights we cried ourselves to sleep
and grief had filled our days
The "first" would be the holidays
those days were filled with tears
then January brought his birthday
what should've been 23 years
And on Veterans and Memorial day
we honored him with pride
and even though we seemed so strong
in the quiet we still cried
We now have come full circle
for the July moon shines bright
one year down, a lifetime to go
for then we'll reunite

We apologize for being late with this post, we did not know this website existed until resently. God Bless Legacy.com for this means to honor our heros.
We can't imagine what you have been going through since being notified of the death of your young Warrior. The Military and families all over the USA and world are grieving with you and praying for you. What a very brave individual you have in your family that would give up a life for their homeland and its people so they can remain free. Your Freedom Fighter has served the Country above and beyond the call of duty, let no one ever tell you different. With the mission now completed your Warrior has been redeployed to Heaven to sit on the right hand of the Supreme Commander and Chief. The Father above has Troy in his arms and will give him peace as well as eventually easing your pain and suffering. God speed to you and Spc. Troy C. Linden, our HERO. We are so proud of them that are willing to sacrifice for this great Nation, THANK YOU.

Troy, it doesnt seem like in just a few short days that it will have been 9 months ago we lost you.
the pain is still as strong as it was the day you left us....now more so than ever, because we lost yet another proud soldier from our neighboring community(frazee,mn) and seeing the family go through what we did just verifys that time does not heal the pain...i know that you and greg are in a better place and you are both at peace, but you both will be very missed from this community and will live in our hearts forever. i love you so much troy, and i miss you more everyday.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers
Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever
Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away
Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go
We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light
Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray
Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

To Troy and all who remember and love you..... We will never forget!
I have only just begun this journey and may not have known your loved one personally.
I extend to you my deepest condolences. No words will ever express the grief those close to this lost treasure are feeling. I can only say that I can share this grief as I too lost a loved one on July 8, 2006 with you, I will continue to pray for the safety of our soldiers and especially the family and friends of our lost hero’s. I only hope the memories will carry us through. I will continue pray that you also will believe and know that our heavenly father will not give us more than we can handle.
As always I read (and cry) through the memorials of our lost hero’s before I post a message, So many people have already expressed the things I would also say. I am amazed and take comfort that so many people care. It took me a long time to be able to make this particular posting. I can only thank you for the sacrifice you and especially Troy, Joey, and Omar have made to protect our country. As others have said “I am only an email away.” I would be honored if you so choose to share about this fine man. I know we all dreamt of a very different future.
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28

oh wow, i have alot of memories with troy and i will keep them in my heart forever. one of the best was when troy took me to wefest last year. we rode in his jeep and listened to music. it was one of the best times i have ever had with him. another is when he took jessi, nikki, and me mudding back when we were little girls, and being with a teenage cruising the strip and going mudding was the best feeling ever, just for a teenaged boy to tool around his 3 little cousin is just amazing. thank you so much for those memories troy and you will be in my heart and in my prayers for the rest of my life.

To Troy's family,
There isn't a day that goes by that I don't pray for you and think of you and your loss. From the minute I heard Troy had been killed in Iraq, my heart ached for you. I feel blessed to have met Troy and will forever be grateful to him and countless others who have given so much for us in this war. To each of you, may God strengthen you each day and comfort you as you continue to adjust to life without Troy. He will not be forgotten.

To Troy's Family:
Every day here in Iraq is even harder without Troy's prescence, he was my friend and we all will always miss him. I remember our trips to Munich, Bamberg or just hanging out in the barracks, he was part of the group. My room is next to his here in Ramadi and I miss him playing the guitar and asking me for a cigarrete break and spending time just talking about everything and anything, he was a friends friend. He is not forgotten and will never be. Rest in peace my friend...

I will try to do this but It's still hard. I was just thinking an odd thought, that when We got back, we were going to hug and reminisce when we got back, I felt like I would see you again. I still haven't let it in buddy. I can't accept that you are gone yet and It's easier to preted that your still alive and somewhere where I'll find you again.
Troy was one of my best friends. He was the "good guy" in a world that can be unking, troy was there for me from the start when I showed up at the 54th in Bamberg. We were in the same squad and the squad leader used to call him "sweets". He hated that, because he was tough too. He was a sweet guy, that's the best way to describe him for me, he was kind hearted and easy going. He was a blessing to have in my life, and we spent many good times and bad times together. It's ironic that I used to be afraid of dying, but troy always told me that I shouldn't worry about it, that I was going to make it and there's nothing you can do about it so you might as well not worry. I look at a picture of you and my heart swells. It swells because I am not afraid to say that I loved you like a brother, you were my brother because you were ALWAYS there for me, no matter what. I don't know why God had to take my best friend, one of the "good guys." I still sometimes think about going over to 3rd platoon hooch to stop in and then I remember, but I say to myself your not gone. Maybe you aren't gone. Maybe you're with me right now as I hold back my tears. I remember the concert last summer, we drank beer, looked for pretty girls (you always seemed to attract them more than me) and just listened to music and enjoyed life. You and I got lost in the crowd on night, just wandering after the music stopped, talking about things, just soaking in life and the great time we had. I think we all lived life to the fullest in those days because we knew we were coming to a bad place. Well, you went to the last show without me, sometimes I wish I would have gone in your place because I'm old, 32 and you could have had more time to experience life. The truth is brother, that I would have taken your place in the RG 31 that night, and I would have gone to the show first. I have a ticket though, I'm not going to use it yet, I think there are some things God wants me to do down here first. But save a seat for me, because we'll be jamming out when I get up there, you know that. Troy, please rest easy my dear sweet friend, it was hard down here, just rest for now. I'll see you when I get there, put in a good word for me. Until that time, take care of Micks, Flores and Floyd for me OK? I have to go on now and finish up my work down here. love you with all my heart troy. Justin

I was given the address of this site, by my online friend, Lisa Foster. Troy is her nephew, and when she told me that three weeks ago, she lost the special soldier in her life, my heart skipped a beat. No words could ever be spoken for the loss of a fallen soldier. My heart reaches out to the family, friends and neighbors. I am so sorry for your loss, and though he can never be replaced, he will also never be forgotten.

MaryLee, Keith and Family - when our son Paul told us the news of Troy - I was in disbelief - I thought for sure he must have heard wrong. I was so affraid to call Colleen for fear it was not true. However, when I called her and she started crying right away I knew it was true. My husband, Rob, and I have literally grown up with the McLeod girls - and our children went to school with their children - you never imagine that such a tragedy will happen to someone you know. My heart ached in sorrow for MaryLee and Keith yet was so glad that our son had not yet been deployed. I've never struggled with such an emotion over heartache and grief - and pride that just abounds in our hearts. We never knew Troy personally but surely know the family and we are so greatful to MaryLee and Keith - for their sacrifice also. God Speed to you and your family - now and always.
May your tears turn to years of wonderful memories -

I knew Troy from Bamberg. He was one of the kindest people I have ever met, and I liked him from the first moment. My boy-friend, who is still in Ramadi, and all of his fellow soldiers miss him, Omar, Joseph and Al'Kaila terribly. They will live on in their hearts forever. I will never forget Troy either - he was special! My heartfelt condolences to his family and everyone who knew and loved him

To the Linden family: I used Sarah Nelson's words, in a eulogy for my 99 yr old father on July 18.
"I recently ran across some powerful words that are appropriate at this time. They can certainly apply to Dad. There was a young soldier from Detroit Lakes, Troy Linden, who recently died in Iraq. And his sister, Sarah Nelson, said of him:
"He will never be gone. He'll always be a part of us. He will be with us forever."

To The Family of Troy Linden-
My heart goes out to you in this time of grief. I have known Troy since kindergarten, and I have memories from early childhood (Troy was my first kiss in first grade!), to performing "Singing in the Rain" together, to graduation day. He was the sweetest person, and I will always keep a special place for him in my heart. Troy's courage will forever be remembered, as he was a very special person. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Love, Maria Skarie

To the family of Spc. Troy Linden, our hearts go out to you in your tremendous loss. We do not know you or your son, but feel connected as neighbors in Minnesota as well as a family with a military person (to be deployed this Fall). May your hero rest in peace, and you find that same peace (in time) as you grieve and remember your loved one.

To the Linden Family,
We are so sorry for your loss. Troy was a wonderful young man and we thank Sarah for giving us the opportunity to know him. He was truly a great son, brother and uncle. Our flag flys in honor of him and the other young soliders who are still protecting our country. God Bless you all.

I am very sorry for your loss. Troy was a special person because of the unselfish sacrifice he made to protect us against the enemy. He was willing to put on the uniform, when many of us will not. He is everything a soldier should be and you should be proud to have had someone in your life like Troy. He is no longer in the U.S. military, because he was promoted to work in God's military, and that is the highest you can achieve. My prayers are with your family at this time.

Our prayers are with the family of Spc. Troy C. Linden. Every time I attend Grace Lutheran Church in Detroit Lakes, MN Where Troy's Picture hangs with my Son's Picture on the board I say a pray for both boys. My son, Bryce is still in Iraq. My heart breaks everyday with your lost. When I look up at the sky I know one of those bright stars shinning down is Troy. Troy has touched so many lives with his sacrifice. God Bless you and your family.

We do not know Troy as a soldier, but our son served in Ar Ramadi Iraq, and we know how dangerous and difficult a place it is. Our son Benjamin Schuster, was KIA in Ar Ramadi on February 25, 2006. We know of many soldiers still there and know they share a commitment and comraderie that we here at home can never know. We share your shock and pain, and know that life will never be the same. We also know that until we can see our son again, our job is to make what we can of our life and loves here to honor the sacrifices he has made. Our thoughts and prayers are with you through this difficult time, that you may feel his healing presence, now and in the times ahead, and know that love lives on always.

Troy C Linden was my cousin. We were fortuneate enough to see him just 6 short weeks ago when he was home on leave. We had the chance to hug him, talk with him and thank him for his bravery. He has given what all of us can not. His life. Thank you Troy, for protecting us, serving us and loving us enough to sacrifice yourself.

To the Family of Spc. Troy C. Linden;
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.
I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.
