David was born on Nov. 29, 1981. He attended school in Ledyard through high school, and received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Connecticut. At the time of his death, David was a graduate student in the Microbiology Department of the University of Massachusetts. He was to receive his Doctoral degree in January 2009. When David was 17, he became a volunteer fireman with the Ledyard Fire Company, and after moving to Massachusetts he joined the Amherst Fire Department. He was a lieutenant in that department at the time of his death. His association with these departments exemplifies the devotion David had to serving his community.
David will be deeply missed not only by his family, but by the many friends whose lives he enriched with his love of life, humor, and caring nature.
A memorial service will be held in David's honor at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 20, at the Ledyard Firehouse located at 11 Fairway Dr., Ledyard.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in David's memory.
More details will be available at the memorial service. Obituary and register at www.douglassfuneral.com

I have known David since 1999 when he joined the Ledyard Fire Company. From the start I soon realized that David was a special person, a person who was extra nice to everyone he met and talked to. David excelled when he took his Firefighter 1 and Firefighter 2 courses. I had a lot of fun being around David. My late mother always asked who the nice person that called the house was - it was David. David was my friend and I will always remember him. My sincere condolences to the Pollack Family.

Carol, Vince, Joey & Gram: I want to let you know that I am so sorry for the loss of David. I am honored to have met David, he influenced my life. What I experienced at Gram's 85th birthday reunion made an immense impression on me and I have bragged on all of you since. David was such a bright young man and his loss leaves us all with a void. I will always keep his spirit alive in the memories that I have received from his wonderful personality, humanity, humor and intelligence.
I love all of you, Terrie

Dave was one of those guys everyone liked. He was smart, personnable and straightforward. I had quite a few great conversations with Dave during his time in Ledyard and it was always a pleasure talking with him. When he joined Ledyard Fire Co., he took it to heart and did everything he could do to excel and know the job and become an excellent firefighter and that also reflects on everything else he did in life. Dave, you will be sadly missed by all those who knew you.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Pollack family during this tragic time. I remember playing soccer with both Dave and Joe. I always have admired Dave's commitment to serving the community as a fireman, especially because he was able to find time to volunteer at the local fire department in Amherst while studying for his doctorate! He was truly a great guy and will be missed by many. I will keep him and his family in my prayers.

Dear Carol, Vinnie, and Joey. As next door neighbors, Rose and I were deeply grieved by Davids' passing. Our first thoughts were of two young boys playing in the yard, waiting for Dad to come home from work, Mom calling from the back porch, "You two be careful out there." Such a sorrowful loss. Please accopt our Sympathy in Davids' passing. Rose & Ed Lange

Dave, you were one of my best friends....I have known you my entire life. There is little that I can appropriately say here that will summarize what you meant to all of us. Just know, that we will not forget you and impact that you had on all of us.
