September 15, 1956 – December 25, 2009

John Randolph Logan, 53, of College Station, loving husband, father, son, uncle, brother, grandfather and friend, passed away quietly in his sleep on Friday, December 25, 2009. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, at Hillier Funeral Home. A celebration of John's life will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday, December 31, at his home, located at 8773 Dott in College Station.

John was born in Bryan on September 15, 1956, to Walter Randolph "Ron" Logan and Marguerite Bicknell Logan. He attended A&M Consolidated schools and Sam Houston State University. He was employed with the City of College Station as an inspector for the engineering department for the last 17 years.

He was actively engaged in Little League for many years, as both a player and then later with his sons. John was an avid reader and enjoyed sailing, golfing, playing music and bringing his family together as often as possible. He was a mentor to many and helped any and all who needed it. John was referred to as "Old Man" by his children and grandchildren, not because of his age, but because of his wisdom.

For those who knew him, each and every day was made better by his guidance, his friendship and his love. Please remember him with the same feelings as if he was standing beside you, for he is within each and every one of us.

John was preceded in death by his father, Walter Randolph "Ron" Logan.

Survivors include his wife of more than 27 years, Jodi Marie Logan of College Station; sons and daughters-in-law, Adam James and Jennifer Logan and Jon Michael and Kristin Logan, all of Bryan; mother, Marguerite Logan French of College Station; sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn Logan-McDaniel and John McDaniel of Rochester, N.H., and Laura Anne Logan-Cearley and Kurt Cearley of Buda, Texas; brother, Robert Graham Logan of Austin; mother and father-in-law, Al and Joan Osmera of Surprise, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Tammi Passeri of College Station; grandchildren, Keira Belle Logan and Raistlin Drake Logan; nieces and nephews, Laura Webb, Matthew Jeremy Kazinec, Amelia Rose Logan, Paul Nathaniel Logan, Keegan Liberty O'Connel and Ali Rose Hert; and dogs, Harley, Soni, Jax, Penni and Missy.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Brazos Humane Society or to MHMR of Brazos Valley.

John was one of the finest people that I have known. He was honest, direct, loyal to the City, brilliant in his knowledge of construction and requirements, and very fair in his decisions. He loved his family and spoke of them often with great joy. He lived every day to the fullest. He was a mentor, and I learned much from this man of enormous and varied talents. I will miss him greatly.

Although I had only known John for the last couple of years, I considered him a great friend. Getting together with John and others to play cards was always a highlight for me. It was a chance to laugh and talk about the old days. I learned a lot about him in a short amount of time and will really miss those times. I know he loved his family, especially his grandkids, and I know they will miss him terribly. My thoughts will always be with his family and friends for this tragic loss.

I have known John for many years. First as a concrete craftsman at Area Progress Corp then as an inspector with the City of College Station. John was a skilled craftsman and a trusted friend with great people skills. John was a smart, confident and outspoken man who didn't take himself too seriously.

I admired John.
