Dear Alonzo, daughters, mother, siblings, and other loved ones,

I, like so many others, feel that knowing Lorraine has been one of the most distinct privileges of my life. The pain of knowing that she is gone from us now is tempered only by the wonderful memories of her. Yes, she was a powerhouse of idealism and determination who delivered results, not rhetoric. But the intense intellect with which she blazed trails was always coupled with that undeniable charm, wit, and, of course, that incredible smile and laugh. The impact of her enormous love and spirit is evident in the faces of all of you, as her loved ones. Please know that her memory will also live on in the hearts and minds of those of us who had the privilege of working with her. She will always be an inspiration to me. Whenever I think of her, I will say a prayer for you as well. She has earned her heavenly reward and may joy be boundless for her in her new eternal life.

To the Morado & Lee Families,

There is no doubt that the last couple of days have brought forward many faces and stories that are a living testimony to the life that Lorraine dedicated herself to; the life of service to others.

It’s awesome that Lorraine was not an elected official, yet her memorial demonstrated that “the people” have their own heroes that never see a ballot.

Although we will all miss her, the true loss is of those that never will.

May your heart soon find true peace.

Dear Alonso, Rita, Anisa, Sophia, and of course, Delia and the rest of the family, the words that best describe Lorraine were repeated over and over again in the last couple of days - at the Rosary and Memorial Service on Sunday night, and at the beautiful funeral service today: Passion, Fire, and Love. I have to say that was my memory of Lorraine even in high school at Pueblo, already a dedicated activist, trying to drive others to join her in the "Cause". I think Lorraine embodies this verse from Psalm 72:4 - "He will defend the afflicted among the the people and save the children of the needy, he will crush the oppressor." And this quote from Norman Cousins - "Nothing is more beautiful or powerful than an individual acting out of his conscience, thus helping to bring the collective conscience to life". What an inspiration and role model. You should be comforted knowing Lorraine has served her purpose - look at the impact she has had. We all have been blessed.

We ALL lost a TRUE FRIEND! I extend my most sincere condolences to the entire family and friends that surrounded Lorraine with love and friendship throughout her life. She was a true “Godsend” that was always so very helpful to all that needed her assistance – family, friends and people she didn't know. I will forever hold great memories in my heart and I will always remember her friendship and good times we had. My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time of loss and sorrow. Alonzo, Rita, Anisa and Sophia – Un fuerte abrazo y beso. Hoping that you will find the tranquility and peace during this time of need. We all will carry Lorraine’s loving memory in our hearts and be able to share that with all those that were not so lucky to have known such a GRAND LADY! Our Love and Prayers, also from my husband David, little Espi and my brothers and sisters.

Alonzo and Family,
My deepest heart felt sympathies to each of you at the death of your beautiful Lorraine. It was just a few weeks ago we laughed together at the Tex-Mex concert at the Casino del Sol. Lorraine was still smiling and enjoying the music so much. Even through her illness she always had something to laugh about or share. She gave so much to our community and will be missed by all. I still remeber that great wedding I was honored to do for the two of you, and all the years I watched you continue to grow in love. My love, thoughts, prayers, and friendship are with you.

Sweet Lorraine – words are so inadequate to describe what an incredible human being you were. You will always be part of me. We met during those heady college days when we thought everything was possible. You proved that one person could have a tremendous, positive impact on the world around us. You were the embodiment que si se puede. You inspired and touched so many people through your uncompromising dedication to education, to the disenfranchised and to our community. Your gift for public speaking energized and inspired everyone fortunate enough to hear you speak. You had both feet firmly planted on the ground but yet your imagination soared with all that could be and should be done. We shared fun, adventures, goofiness, the 70s, laughter and motherhood. You generously shared your best friend Aliza Jaramillo Gallo with me. Even in the face of your illness you maintained a positive attitude. I will always be humbled by your work ethic, morality, strength of character, generosity, compassion, faith and love. You will always be my mentor, my inspiration and mi querida amiga. With condolences and love to Alonzo and family.

Alonzo & Family,
Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Despite your grief and the grief expressed by the Latino community for Lorraine's passing, there is a great deal of Pride for the work and overal social gains attributed to Lorraine. It was Lorraine who "recruited" me and got me involved with MECHA during my brief time at the UofA almost 30 years ago. Lorraine's constant smile & laughter, her beautiful personality as well as her leadership inspired everyone that she touched. I am proud to have known her and I know that Our Lord has reserved a very special place in HIS Kingdom for your wife, mother, and daughter.
