As Alumni Director, he was a member of the UF development team and was responsible for individual gifts and alumni giving. He is a native Floridian and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in telecommunications in 1964 and a Master of Arts in communications and marketing in 1965, both from UF.

Poucher's out-of-country assignments include projects in Argentina, Aruba, Belize, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua and Cameroon. He has served as chair of the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications Telecommunications Advisory Council and as President of the Ag Institute of Florida, a consortium of information officers of agricultural industry groups. Poucher was a member of the Program Panel, the Administrative Council and Board of Directors' Executive Committee for the American Distance Education Consortium (ADEC) and served as chair of its standing committee on marketing. His civic service includes membership in Rotary International, Treasurer of the United Way, President of Voluntary Action Center, and a director of the Alachua County American Cancer Society Unit.
Poucher has received numerous awards including the top international awards for excellence for communications management, marketing, television news, television programming, and television documentaries from the Agricultural Communicators in Education. He received the Irving Award, the highest award provided by ADEC for excellence in e-learning programs. He has received the Florida Public Relations Association Golden Image Judges Award and an Award of Distinction for video documentary production.

Don and I attended the same high school in Hardee County. When I got out of the Air Force, and began attending the UofF, Don had graduated high school and was also attending the UofF. in 1963,. Since we lived in the same town, but I didn't have a car, Don once gave me a lift to Gainesville in his green and white Nash Metropolitan. I'll never forget cruising up the highway at 70 mph and sweating bullets because that car was tiny compared to other cars.

Years later, after I had graduated from the UofF,
I recall watching a couple of Don's agricultural videos when I was working in Orlando.

I see Don passed away in 2018 and now it's 2024 and I just found out. Nevertheless, rest in peace Don, old pal, and thanks for the ride!

I feel so badly that I didn't know of Don's passing in 2018. I only learned of his death when trying to look him up after hearing about Robert Grubbs passing on 12-19-2021. Don and I were roommates during my senior year at the University of Florida living together with Robert Grubbs in an off-campus apartment. Regrettably, I lost track of Don after entering the U.S. Navy during Vietnam War era and moving to Texas 40 years ago. He was a wonderful person. I shall always remember him.
