Alfred Shaffer Obituary

Born August 11, 1928, in Bristol, Virginia, to Glenn Meir Shaffer and Julia Mae Carter Shaffer, Alfred has been a member of this community since he was 15 years old. He worked at Perfet Circle and then J.M. Hutton, as a glue press operator, retiring in 1992, after 48 years. He was a hard worker and never missed a day of work. He always had a good sense of humor.
Survivors include his daughter, June E. (Scott) Hesson, of Richmond, Indiana; sons, Doug Shaffer of Lynn, Indiana, David E. (Julia) Shaffer, of Richmond, Indiana, Kenneth "Kenny" (Tricia) Shaffer, of Richmond, Indiana, Danny G. Shaffer of Fountain City, Indiana; 19 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; special nieces, Jenny Foreman and Carol Bussen; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary R. Lawhorn Shaffer; parents; daughters, Sally I. Smith, Judy Goins, Robin I. Matthews; grandson, Ricky Goins; great grandson, Brandon Shaffer; brothers, Raymond, Woodrow, Frank, Jack, and Bill Shaffer; sisters, Edna Balthis, Blanche Roach, Ola Rentz; daughter in law, Debbie Sartain Shaffer; and special granddaughter, Jaime Matthews Frye.

Visitation for Alfred Shaffer will be from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home with Pastor Kyle Allen officiating. Burial will be in Lutherania Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to: American Heart Association, P. O. Box 840692, Dallas, Texas 75284 or any local animal shelter.
