Obituary of Barbara J. Young
Barbara J. Young, the daughter of Ralph Marion Barnes and Grace M. (Rieke) Barnes, was born December 2, 1935 in rural Republic County, Kansas south of Chester, NE and passed away on April 24, 2024 at the Blue Valley Lutheran Home, Hebron, NE at the age of 88.
Barbara attended the Prairie Flower Country School and later attended and graduated from Chester High School.
On January 10, 1954 she was united in marriage to Delmer E. Young and to this union was born: Gary L. and Douglas A. Barbara was involved in food service at the York Public Schools for 12 years and later York College for 12 years where she was the cook. She then worked at Chances "R" Restaurant for 8 years where she was a cook and baker. The couple lived in York for 40 years. They spent their retirement years in Chester, Nebraska.
Barbara was a member of the First Christian Church in York, NE and the Chester Methodist Church, Chester, NE.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband-Delmer on November 19, 2023; brothers, Alvin Barnes, Bob Barnes, and Dale Barnes; sisters, Viola Juedes and Wilma Sayler, and infant sister, Leora.
Barbara is survived by two sons, Gary (Billie) Young of Charleston, SC and Doug (Jacki) Young of Lincoln, Nebraska; two grandchildren, Paige Young of Lincoln, Nebraska and Sierra Young of Lincoln, Nebraska; other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 27, 2024at Bachelor-Surber Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Brian Faust, officiating.
Interment will follow at the Chester Cemetery, Chester, Nebraska.
The family will greet friends from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM, Saturday, April 27th at the funeral home prior to the services.
Memorials are suggested to the Chester Methodist Church, Chester, NE.
