Barry Lee Devore, age 77, of New Philadelphia, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, while in the care of Community Hospice's Truman House at New Philadelphia.
Born on May 7, 1945, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Barry was a son of the late Lester and Gertrude Mintzer Devore.
He was a graduate of the former Lakeland High School in Harrison County and furthered his education a number of years later at the Kent State University Tuscarawas Campus. Early on in his career, Barry served as a policeman and fireman for the Village of Dennison prior to relocating to Texas where he worked for a handful of years for the Goodyear Company. He later worked as an over-the-road truck driver for nearly thirty years prior to retiring.
Barry was a longtime member of the New Philadelphia First Church of the Nazarene and had the ability to fix or repair just about anything. He enjoyed reading, watching classic western movies and shows, and listening to gospel music, especially the Gaither Vocal Band. Above all, he loved his family and his grandchildren and being actively involved in their lives.
Barry is survived by his wife and best friend of nearly 50 years, the former Sheila Plumley whom he married on March 20, 1972; their children, Bob (Kathy) Recco, Kenneth (Sondra) Recco, Rick Recco, Christina Recco, Kevin Recco, Dawn (Ty) Bricker, Scott Glauser, Myndi Devore, and Kelli Devore; his beloved grandchildren, Sam, Jesse, Mandi, Stephen, Kari, Rick, Jr., Lindsey, Barry, Brandi, Curtis, Colton, Anthony, Emma, Lexi, Max, Zac and Arlo as well as numerous great-grandchildren.
Completing the family are his brother, Jerry (Ginger) Devore; his sister, Patricia Medellin; sisters-in-law, Barb Devore, Glenna (Mick) Simms, Margaret Williamson, Joann (Sonny) Butler, Billie Colvin; brother-in-law, John (Karen) Plumley, Jr. and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Barry was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Devore, a grandson, Joshua; a great-grandson, Tyler, and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emma and John Plumley.
The family will greet guests on Thursday, January 5, 2023, from 3:00 -5:00 PM in the Linn-Hert-Geib Funeral Home & Crematory at New Philadelphia where his friend, Ed Leanza will lead a service in the funeral home's chapel beginning at 5:00 PM. A meal and fellowship will be shared in the New Philadelphia First Church of the Nazarene immediately following the service.
Memorial contributions in Barry's name may be directed to New Philadelphia First Church of the Nazarene, 233 Fair Avenue NE, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
