Bernard was born on February 23, 1969, to his mother Althea and his father Levon in New Haven CT. He then spent the next five years living with his paternal grandparents Lenrew and Pearline and his aunts, whom he lovingly dubbed "The 5 Mamas." His childhood was split living between his birthplace, California, South Carolina, and back again.
At 17 years old, he enrolled in a Westover Job Corps program in Chicopee, MA. It was there, he'd meet his first love and best friend, Tanya. That seed of love flourished into a beautiful family so strongly connected and linked together, their bond would be unbreakable.
Initially, they planted roots in Springfield, MA for about 5 years where the distance from a lot of family helped cement their bond, while countless memories and other close connections were made. No matter where he went people were enraptured by his energy, drawn to the family dynamic, and wanted to be a part of it. Rarely would you feel safer in his presence of 6'7 350lbs, however, people sought him for more than security. He freely gave advice on difficult subjects, and one could trust that his wise, yet straightforward delivery always came from a place of love.
Being a sociable and charming spirit, Bernard led a life filled with adventures, romances, strife, challenges, joys, and triumphs. As life separated him and his forever love, they remained a tight-knit unit. Always doing whatever was necessary to help the other, whenever help was needed. The bond they maintained is a rare gift to have witnessed. One of their daughters even joked they could run a co-parenting workshop, as their relationship is most impressive when it came to leading the family.
Bernard will be memorialized as a great man with a kind heart, quick with a sly grin. A true stand-up guy who's selflessly helped many in need. But if anyone ever thought they'd gotten one over on him they played themselves. The instance would be likely used as a story to teach others about the capacity some can have for deceit and dishonesty. Of all the stories it's assured that at the top of his personal favorites are the ones illustrating his role as a father. The only role he could love more is Pop Pop.
This cherished soul is met in the yonder by his grandparents, maternal and paternal, his parents, his brother Vinny, His aunt Alma and perhaps most profoundly, his 1st grandson Kaisen. He missed his "little Black boy" so much, you might think he had to check on the boy himself.
He leaves behind to miss him forever, a litany of loved ones beginning with his beloved wife Sabrina Singleton, 3 children and 8 grandchildren. His first wife Tanya where his legacy will live on through his children, #1 Laureen, #2 Tayana, #3 Dana, #4 Triniti, #5 Bernard Jr, Lorenzo, and Richard. In addition, his sons from love Robert, Terry, and Darryel. As well as his grandchildren K'loe, Tahmeir, while proudly awaiting the arrival of Baby Gardner. His brothers Joshua, Levon Jr, and Dennis are left to carry his torch.
He is survived by his beloved 5 mamas Debbie, Gina, Render, Roberta, and Barbara. Along with his mother's brother Edward and 5 of her sisters.
Moreover, A host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and close friends that became family are also left with being permanently touched by the blessing of knowing and being known to
