Bernice Walker, of Antigo, died Thursday, June 23, 2022, at her home under the care of her family and Aspirus Hospice. She was 104 years old. Bernice was born on December 16, 1917, in Antigo a daughter of the late Michael and Theresa (Schedlbauer) Koszarek. She was raised in the Town of Peck. She attended St. John Catholic Grade School and Freibel Grade School.
She married Allen Walker on May 28, 1938, at St John Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on January 29, 1996.
She was employed at Weinbrenner Shoe Company Factory, Kasson's Motel and for 19 years she was the head housekeeper at the Cutlass Motor Lodge.
Bernice was a member of St. John Catholic Parish and the Langlade County Senior Citizens Club.
She enjoyed sewing, canning, baking, gardening and braiding rugs. She also made her own greeting cards and painted. She loved attending family gatherings.
Survivors include five daughters, JoAnne Andersson of Santa Barbara, Cali, Carol Moore, Ora (Jerome) Galarowicz, Elaine (Ronald) Fischer all of Antigo and Mary Ellen (Joseph) Golbach of Lakewood; two sons, James (Jean) Walker and John (Lisa Welnetz) Walker both of Antigo; 20 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Marlene Simon of Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Carol Koszarek of Antigo.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Charles Moore and Flemming Andersson; seven brothers, Bernard, Aloysius, Michael, Melvin, Richard, Allen and Robert; and two sisters, Evelyn Wagner and Jeanetta Koszarek.
A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, June 29, 2022, at 11 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Hoffmann officiating. Entombment will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday at the church in Hoffman Hall from 9:30 to 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the charity of the donor's choice
