Carrie M. Gibbons was born in a log cabin in
Arjay, Kentucky in the year 1928 on August 4th.
She departed this life to live forever in eternity with Jesus on December 8, 2023.
She was the 4th child of 6 that were born to William and Amelia Meeks.
Carrie left the mountains of Kentucky and lived in Indiana for a while. Her 1st job as a teen was working in a donut shop.
Her aunt brought her to
Dover, DE where she worked as a waitress and met the love of her life William (Bill) Gibbons. They were married in 1946, living in Wyoming, DE for a while and then building a home on Willow Avenue, Camden, DE, where they remained for many years. They raised 3 children, Rodney, Brenda and Billy in that same home.
Carrie worked a short time at Playtex before having her 1st child.
She was an excellent cook and bowling league member and was secretary for the league, as well as a seamstress and avid fisher women. Carrie belonged to the Women's Auxiliary of the Camden/Wyoming Fire Department and also the Odd Fellows Women's Auxiliary and Whatcoat Church in Camden.
Carrie was a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts. She loved crocheting, bingo and bird watching.
Most of all she loved family using her sewing abilities to make many things for her home and family including her daughter's wedding dress.
She and Bill spent many hours on the waters in and around Delaware fishing and bringing home their bounty for others to share. Best fish fryer in the world.
Carrie was indeed everything the Proverbs women should be and so her children rise up and call her Blessed, wonderful MOM.
After her husband had a stroke, she selflessly cared for him until his passing 10 years later.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William J. Gibbons; Ernest Meeks, Mahala Wolfe, Lula Beatrice Messer, Jasper Meeks, Pal Wonderful Meeks, Billy Meeks and Margaret Harris and grandson, Jason Gibbons.
She is survived by her children, Rodney Gibbons and his wife Lynn of
Dagsboro, DE, Brenda Will and her husband William of Wyoming, DE and William Gibbons and his wife Dawn of
Dagsboro, DE; siblings, Raymond Meeks and George Meeks and his wife Trish; grandchildren, Christopher Gibbons and his wife Kristin of Lincoln, DE, Jeff Gibbons and his wife Kimberly of Magnolia, DE, Lisa Comfort and her husband Paul of Queen Ann, MD, Monica Slater and her husband Andrew of Wyoming, DE, Michael Gibbons of Dagsboro, Brian Gibbons and his wife Julie of Dagsboro, Lindsey Stamps and her husband Terry of E. Liverpool, OH, Zachery Choma of
Dagsboro, DE; 21 great grandchildren, 15 great great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11AM, Friday, December 15, 2023 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt.10), Dover. A viewing will be held one hour prior. Interment will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Camden.
