Edmore- Carrie Elizabeth Middleton, age 96, of Howard City passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, in Big Rapids at Evergreen Terrace Assisted Living. Carrie was born on October 16, 1926, in Stanton to Ralph and Orilla (Robinson) Smith. She graduated in 1944 from Stanton High School. On February 25, 1947, Roy William Middleton took Carrie as his bride in Reed City. Married by the local barber, it was an unforgettable day as the barber forgot the rings, so he performed the ceremony twice. Roy and Carrie had two children together. Through the years she was employed at a variety of places, JC Penny, Moyers Dime Store, and Redman's in Ithaca to name a few. Carrie was also an Avon and Tupperware lady. She enjoyed baking, cooking, knitting, crocheting, and counter cross stitch. Above all else she especially loved spending time with her family. Carrie was a member of the Sheridan VFW Post as well.
Carrie will be missed by her children William LeRoy (Mildred) Middleton of Colorado, Marlene Kay Middleton of Greenville; grandchildren, Robert (Cathy) Middleton, Scott (Ali) Middleton, Terry (Helen) Middleton, Donald (Tara) Topper, April (Timothy) Overzet, Melinda Barnes; 12 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Carrie was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, parents, and 5 siblings, Arthur Smith, Ida Nielson, Carl Smith, Vera Hammer, and George Smith.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, July 17, 2023, at Richland Township Cemetery in Vestaburg with Pastor Steve Hale officiating. A luncheon will follow at Lumberjack Park. Contributions to Carrie's memory can be made to the Arbor Day Foundation. The family would also like to express heartfelt appreciation to Evergreen Terrace Assisted Living for all their care and help with Carrie during her time there.
