Charles G. McDermott

Charles G. McDermott, age 80, of Lanoka Harbor, New Jersey passed away peacefully at Jersey Shore University Medical Center on August 11, 2024. Charlie was born on August 29, 1943, in Somerville, NJ and grew up in Dunellen, NJ. He was the son of the late James and Mary (Ferris) McDermott and predeceased by his brother, James McDermott, Jr. and sister-in-law, Bahbi Ronchi (Rick). He is survived by his wife, Marianne, daughter, Kelly Derflinger (partner Dan Kannheiser), granddaughter Ashlee Derflinger, sisters-in-law, Fran McDermott, Sharon Padula (Lenny), Joan Koelmel (Gordon), and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
Charlie was a man of great honor, serving his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam, retiring as a well-decorated Veteran. He was a tradesman with a long career as a mechanic previously working for Wigton-Abbott where he first met Marianne, Truesdale Construction and Clarks Landing Marina. At 80 years young, he was working at Lacey Liquors, where he enjoyed helping delivery drivers and customers, exchanging a smile or a conversation. He was always the life of the party with his quick wit and jokes. He had a deep love for animals, especially cats, and despite the full house he always found room for one more. Charlie will be certainly missed by all who know him.
A Memorial Service for Charlie will be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, from 11:00AM-1:00PM at Riggs Funeral Home, 130 N Main Street, Forked River, NJ 08731.
