Dr. D. Michael Dean, 77, of Evansville, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at Linda E. White Hospice House.
Mike was born in Evansville, Indiana on December 23, 1945 to the late Leo and Alma (Engelbrecht) Dean. He attended Holy Redeemer Catholic School where he remained a longtime member of the church. Mike was a 1964 graduate of North High School, lettering in football. He furthered his education at the University of Evansville where he continued to play football as well as track and field, and was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. During his time at the University of Evansville he met his wife, Dianne, and swept her off her feet. Their first date was at a Laundromat and they have been together ever since! In 1968 he graduated with a Bachelors of Education. Mike applied and was accepted into the Indiana University School of Dentistry, earning his doctorate in 1972. He remained active and discovered his love of Rugby. Mike was the founder and owner of Dean Family Dental Practice, LLC from 1972 until his retirement in 2019. The business stayed in the family when his son, Darren took over to continue his legacy. Mike loved to coach youth soccer, especially his own children, even into the high school level. He was an avid card player and games of all sorts. His favorite games were Clabber, Bridge and Acquire. He was a fierce competitor! Later in life, during his free time, Mike enjoyed painting. He also almost completed his bucket list of traveling to nearly all the National Parks. Mike loved his family deeply and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and uncle.
Mike is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dianne (Black) Dean; his children, Dr. Darren Dean (Christy), Joanna Dean Cokley, Maggie Shephard (Dr. Andrew), Cmdr. Keith Dean (Jennifer), Jessica Gasco (Bart), Jimmy Dean; sister, Beki Mendorff; brother, Patrick Dean (Patty); grandchildren, Payton Brune (Austin), Evan and Kendall Dean, Bella Cokley, Owen, Grace, and Morgan Shepard, Liam, Leila, Wyatt, and Brianna Dean; great-grandchildren, Weston, and Lakyn Brune; and many nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Karen Coppoletti, Sandra Spann and Viki Sorenson.
