David Gilbert Brooks, a resident of Gulfport, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the age of 45, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Malcom “Mac” and Becky Brooks; and his brother, Bubbie Brooks.

David is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Lori Brooks, and their cherished daughters, Emma Reagan Brooks and Sophia Reese Brooks, all residents of Gulfport, Mississippi.

He is also survived by his brothers, Denton Brooks (Yupaporn), Mac Brooks (Tania), Mick McCormick (Melanie), Mike Alexander (Mindy), and Josh Ladner (Stacey); and by his beloved nieces and nephews: Natasha Wichterich (Josh, Joshua, and Bella); Ryan Brooks (McKenzie, Noah, and Luca); Arsen Brooks (Alexis); Austin (Sora); Rhyanna, Ane'Lei, Alei’a, Maddy, and Mia Brooks; Kati Alexander; and Aaden, Jase, and Mia Joy Ladner as well as Marleigh, Millie, and JJ LeMaire. He is also survived by his in-laws, Ric and Gayla Meshew and Jeff and Viletta McCormick. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, family, friends, and loved ones whose lives he touched deeply.

David worked for Blacklidge Emulsions while earning an associate’s degree in construction in Mississippi and built a respected career in the construction industry serving as a construction superintendent for Yates Construction, Wharton-Smith, Inc., and Orocon Construction. Most recently, he was blessed to be employed with Roberts Wealth Management.

A devoted follower of Christ, David worshipped Jesus faithfully throughout his life along every step of his race. He was a member of Bel-Aire Baptist Church in Gulfport for 40 years. David was known for his unwavering faith, his cheerful and encouraging spirit, and his deep love for his family and friends. To know him was to know the true definition of a friend.

One of David’s favorite Bible verses was Romans 5:8 — “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” This truth defined the way he lived and the hope he carried through every trial.

David was a passionate supporter of D'Iberville High School, proudly cheering on Warrior Football as a devoted member of the Warrior Nation.

In recent years, David and his family developed a deep connection with Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters (SWO), a Gospel-centered camp in Western North Carolina dedicated to equipping teenagers to follow Jesus through Bible teaching. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Snowbird Wilderness Outfitters in David’s honor. Donations can be made at https://swoutfitters.com/swofund/?form=swo1fund. Nothing would make David happier than seeing others come to know and follow Christ.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 26, 2025, from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 11:00 a.m., at Bel-Aire Baptist Church, located at 15080 Dedeaux Road, Gulfport, MS 39503.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude for the outpouring of love, prayers, food, and support during this time from their family and friends, their church family at Bel-Aire Baptist Church, his work family, and the d’Iberville Warrior Nation. They would like to extend a special thank you to Ricky and Melissa Muirhead and Stephen Ruffin, and they would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at Ochsner Medical Center, Memorial Hospital, and Gentiva Hospice.
