David Robert Wagner, 66, of Holden, WV, passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 15, 2024, in Pikeville, KY, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 29, 1958, in Akron, Ohio to L.R. "Bob" Wagner and Gloria Jane Clarke Wagner.
He received his Mining Engineering degree from Virginia Tech, where he was President of the Burkhart Mining Society. He also was a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.). He began his mining career at Island Creek Coal Company where he eventually earned the title of Superintendent. He then became Chief Engineer at Jigsaw Enterprises in Pikeville, KY. He was most recently employed at the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection as Senior Engineer Permit Supervisor, where he retained a large family of friends. David was also a former business owner of Fekete's Pizzeria located in the Rita Mall, where he considered his coworkers and customers as lifelong friends.
David was a devout Catholic and a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus where he served as financial secretary of his local council. He was also a proud Eagle Scout. He was known for his unending kindness and generosity as well as his willingness to always lend a helping hand. To know him was to love him.
Loved ones welcoming him to Heaven include his mother Gloria Jane Wagner, his nephew Justin Tyler Chafin, his mother- and father-in-Law Mary Lou and Alex "Shoney" Fekete, and his brother-in-law Terry Fekete. He was a loving husband to his wife Carolyn Fekete Wagner and an amazing dad to his daughter Bridget "Buffy" Davis of Charleston, WV and his son Shaun David Wagner of Barboursville, WV. Other surviving relatives are his father L.R. "Bob" Wagner and his two sisters Susan Chafin and Linda (Rusty) Justice, all of Pikeville, KY, and his brother Doug (Amy) Wagner of Georgetown, SC. Surviving brothers- and sisters-in law include Manuel (Diana) Fekete of Harts, WV, Christina Fekete of Man, WV, Jerry (Cheryl) Fekete of Amherstdale, WV, and Darlene (Donnie) Stratton of Accoville, WV. Surviving nieces are Jennifer (Katie) Chafin of Mount Sterling, KY, Elon (Ken) Frix of Louisville, KY, Clarissa Fekete of Harts, WV, Julianna (Daksh) Shukla of Sterling, VA, Erica (Bob) Boggs of Conway, SC, Kathy (Jerry) Balzell of St. Augustine, FL, April Ann (Charles) Burkes of Eastover, NC, and Andrea Lynn Fekete of Cleveland, OH. Surviving nephews are Robert (Emily) Chafin of Lexington, KY, Aaron Wagner of Raleigh, NC, Jared (Ashley) Wagner of Myrtle Beach, SC, John (Kelly) Fekete, Jeremy (Sheena) Fekete, and Justin Fekete all of Man, WV, and Jared (Kristin) Stratton of Kenova, WV. David also leaves behind several great nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. He will be missed by his neighbors Ralph (Terrie) Brown and Phil (Kathy) Hatfield.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 19th, from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM at Freeman Funeral Home in
Chapmanville, WV, and funeral service will be held on Friday, September 20th, at 11:00 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Logan, WV with Rev. Biju Paul Parampil as officiant. Burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens in
Chapmanville, WV.
