Dayton Lucille Rogers Moss went home to be with her Jesus on the afternoon of October 3, 2023. Dayton was a lifelong resident of Hayesville, born on March 13, 1941, to the late Rev. Oda G. Rogers and Minnie Kuykendall Rogers. She lived a life full of service to her Savior and loved her family, friends, and many acquaintances throughout the years. She was a member of Mission Hill Baptist Church in Hayesville where she served and loved many people. Dayton worked as a receptionist and dental assistant for Dr. Bud Garrison for over 30 years when she retired in 2012. She also worked for the ACI Plant in Hayesville for 13 years.
Dayton had a gift of hospitality and a talent for baking and cooking. She welcomed many into her home for a meal or just dessert, sharing her delicious cakes with family, friends, and a few strangers. Whether it was a beautifully decorated wedding cake or a simple slice of pound cake, all were delicious and prepared with an abundance of love.
In addition to her parents, Dayton was preceded in death by her husband Fred W. Moss, whom she married January 2, 1960, and who was probably fishing on the banks of the rivers of heaven waiting for her. She completed the Oda and Minnie Rogers' family circle in heaven following those who have gone before – brothers Clarence Rogers, Bill Rogers, Rev. Jimmy Rogers, and John Rogers; and sisters Ruth Rogers Lance and Nora Lou Rogers Barnhill. Her best friend sister, Joyce Vaught, was also welcoming her to her new home.
She left behind her daughter Lisa Moss Strickland and husband Rex; daughter Teresa Moss Lockaby and granddaughter Skylar Lockaby whom she loved so beautifully. Other grandchildren she loved are Rex Strickland, Jr., and Brooke Strickland Conaway and husband Matt; and great grandchildren Gracey Conaway, Chloe Conaway, Lincoln Conaway, and Mila Conaway.
Also surviving is her special nephew "son", Keith Kitchens and wife Donna, and many other nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Dayton's life well lived will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Meadow Grove Baptist Church, Hayesville, NC. The family welcomes friends from 1:30-3:15 p.m., with the service beginning at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Tom Gragg will deliver the message. Pallbearers are Keith Kitchens, Mike Gribble, Rex Strickland, Jr., David Rogers, Ricky Rogers, and David Rogers. Honorary pallbearers are Kelvin Kitchens and her dear friend Marilyn Berrong Bailey.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Meadow Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Hayesville, North Carolina.
Townson-Rose Funeral Home, Hayesville, in charge of arrangements.

I grew up in the Meadow Grove community and I saw Dayton and visited with her weekly. The Rogers family was dear to my family and me . Dayton was my friend growing up and sometimes came home with us for Sunday dinner I have precious memories of her she was a wonderful person I am sure she is singing in the heavenly choir while Oda and Minnie are enjoying it as well as the rest of the family.

Dayton is definitely leaving a Legacy! She was a precious friend who loved everyone and they loved her. She has a wonderful family who will miss her but we know she is in Heaven and now at peace with our Heavenly Father.
Love and prayers to all the family!
