Doris E. Marchand

Doris E. Marchand, born on December 26, 1925, in Stewartstown, NH, and a long-time resident of Manchester CT, passed away with her family by her side on May 8, 2024, Known affectionately to friends and family as Doris, she was a beacon of warmth and love to all who knew her. Her life was a testament to the value of family, community, and the simple joys that make a life well-lived.
Doris was the cherished daughter of the late Alexander Nadeau and Alma (Dube) Nadeau, and she carried the legacy of her parents' kindness and strength throughout her life. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 64 years, Robert O. Marchand, with whom she shared a life full of love and mutual respect. Together, they raised a family that included their sons, Robert R. Marchand and Louis A. Marchand (Linda), and their daughter, Diana M. Skelly (Peter). Although she was predeceased by her ten siblings and her grandson Jason Marchand, Doris's legacy continues through her loving grandchildren, Tammy Marchand of Maine, Kristina St. Amant Christopher), and Jessica Garcia (David).
Doris's life was further enriched by her treasured great-grandchildren, Nathan, Ivy, Shawn, Austin, Ethan, Raelynn, Trevor, Emma, Bodhi, and Ruby. Each of them was a source of immense joy and pride for Doris, who devoted herself to their happiness and well-being.
Beyond her dedication to her family, Doris was known for her commitment to her community. She was a longtime volunteer at MACC, where she contributed her time and energy to assist those in need. Her entrepreneurial spirit shone through her ownership of Modern Radiator where she not only managed a successful business but also fostered a workplace that felt like a second family to her employees.
Doris's hobbies and interests reflected her love for the simple pleasures in life. She was an accomplished crafter, expressing her creativity through crocheting, knitting, and sewing. Many will remember the beautiful pieces she created, each stitch a representation of her thoughtfulness and care. Reading on her porch was a favored pastime, especially when accompanied by the sound of birds, which she adored feeding. Her conversations with the cardinal that frequently visited her garden were a source of delight and a cherished ritual.
Above all, the center of Doris's world was her unwavering dedication to family life. Her home was a hub of activity, laughter, and unconditional love. She guided her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with the same gentle hand and strong values that her parents had passed down to her. Her remarkable ability to listen, her endless patience, and her nurturing spirit were the cornerstones upon which her family was built.
Doris's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with threads of compassion, resilience, and joy. Her memory will be held dear in the hearts of those she touched, and her influence will continue to be felt through the generations of her family.
Doris's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but her spirit remains a guiding light for her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, family, and community service will endure forever.
Calling Hours will be held at Holmes Watkins Funeral Home (400 Main Street, Manchester, CT 06040) on Wednesday, May 15th from 9am till 11am, followed by a Mass at St. Bartholomew's (45 Ludlow Road, Manchester CT 06040) with burial to follow at St. James Cemetery (368 Broad Street, Manchester CT 06040.)
