Edmond Oscar Christian Sr.

Edmond Oscar Christian, Sr., 93, died peacefully on October 10, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Rebecca C. Christian; daughter, Joyce C. Charity, and her family: Joseph, Lanisha, Julian, Brooke, Judith, and Jewell; daughter, Lisa, and Kevin Brown, Sr., and their family: Kevin, Jr., Brandi, Leah, Reggie, and Jacob; son, Edmond O. Christian, Jr.; 12 great-grandchildren, and extended family members. He was the ninth child of the late Herbert S. Christian, Sr., and Sadie Bradby Christian. He was educated in the public schools of Charles City County.
Edmond served with distinction in the United States Army in the Korean War. In his later years, he shared memories of being in Korea with his family.
Edmond joined Cedar Grove Baptist Church at an early age. He faithfully served at Cedar Grove in many capacities, including Deacon, Trustee, Banking Committee, Sunday School Superintendent, and Sunday School Teacher. His love of woodworking allowed him to make the bookcases for the Sunday School classes, flower stands and the cross on the Sanctuary wall.
Later, Edmond joined Samaria Baptist Church and his love for woodworking continued. He was able to make bookcases for the Pastor's office, flower stands, and a Communion table. Edmond worked at David M. Lea Industries for many years. He retired from Stone Container in 1992.
Retirement allowed him to work with No Greater Love and pursue his woodworking passion. He was proud that many of his creations were in homes throughout the country. Daddy taught us to put God first, family second; and to honor our commitments to church, work, and the community. He generously gave produce from his gardens to the community. He was known for his beautiful gardens.
We thank God for sharing Edmond O. Christian, Sr., with us as husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, relative and friend.
A funeral service will be held 2PM Sunday, October 15, 2023, at Samaria Baptist Church, 8130 Lott Cary Rd, Providence Forge, VA 23140. A viewing will be from 6PM-8PM Saturday, October 14, 2023, at Vincent Funeral Home, Providence Forge, Va 23140.
