Edward John O'Shea Jr. (92) of Jewett, New York and Callawassie Island, South Carolina passed away on December 6, 2023.
Born on December 4, 1931, to parents Edward and Grace O'Shea of Rockaway, New York, Edward attended St. John's Prep in Brooklyn, played college basketball while attending Notre Dame, graduated from Georgetown University's School of Dentistry and opened four orthodontic offices on Long Island. In addition to his practice, Edward was immensely proud of his dedicated twenty-nine years of military service in the United States Navy, where he advanced to the rank of Rear Admiral in the Dental Corps (Active Duty 1958-1960 and Reserve 1961-1988) and earned the Legion of Merit. He also served as a recruiter for candidates applying to the U.S. Naval Academy.
Committed to his faith and philanthropy, Edward was the president of the Long Island Chapter of Catholic Charities. His greatest talent was helping others, fixing problems (and anything broken in the house), and giving encouragement as a pillar of strength and stability.
Edward is survived by his six children, Nancy O'Shea, Kevin (Susan) O'Shea, Megan (Lawrence) O'Shea-Megale, Maura (Dave) Fletcher, Kathleen O'Shea-Paesano, Christine (Ashby) Dodge-O'Shea; and pridefully, his sixteen grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan, Kyler, Katie, Margaret, Kelley, Shea, Annie, Will, Madeline, Charles, Sophia, Mary, Bella, Sawyer, Sullivan; and his great-grandchildren, Michaela, Emma, and Jack. He also leaves behind his sister, Rita O'Shea, of Southampton, New York. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Judy, and his grandson, Matthew.
Funeral services will be held December 18th, 11:00 a.m., at the Basilica Parish of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary in Southampton, New York.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to American Boy in memory of Edward's grandson Matthew (www.americanboy.org).
