Edwin Kirk Kiesling

Edwin "Kirk" Kiesling, age 89, of Austin, Texas, passed away on July 5, 2023.
He was born on February 6, 1934 in Thorndale, Texas to Edwin Ernst Kiesling and Francis Rose (Runge) Kiesling. He graduated from Thorndale High School in 1952 and enlisted in the United States Army in 1954. Kirk received basic training at Ft. Carson, Colorado and was stationed at Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey with the military police. He was honorably discharged in 1957 at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. He attended Southwest Texas State College in San Marcos, Texas in 1959 before transferring to Nixon-Clay Business College in Austin. Kirk then went to work for the State Board of Insurance in 1959. He received his B.A.A. from Nixon-Clay Business College in 1963. In 1960, he began his career with the State Highway Department and worked with them until his retirement in 1993. At the time of his retirement, he had 35 years of service with the State of Texas.
He married Edna R. Kiesling (Siegmund) on April 21, 1963 and they were married for just over sixty years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Francis Kiesling and his three brothers, Gilbert E. Kiesling, Eldred H. Kiesling and Delma E. Kiesling. He is survived by his wife, Edna R. Kiesling; his sister-in-law, Lillie Kipp and husband Walter of Round Rock and sister-in-law, Ruth E. Whitehead of Austin; and countless nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
A visitation will be held Tuesday, July 18, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Funeral Home in Pflugerville with a funeral service following at 11:00 a.m. Following the service, he will be laid to rest with military honors at Cook-Walden/Capital Parks Cemetery.
