Elva L. Mills

Elva L. Mills, age 92 of Lexington, passed away on December 4, 2023, with her family by her side. She was born on May 25, 1931 in Royal Oak Township, to the late George and Ruby Mills.
She married Clair Mills, he preceded her in death on July 15, 2012.
She served her communities on the Madison School Board, Madison Heights City Council, Village Council and then mayor of Lexington Michigan. She sat on boards for hospitals and was an advocate for schools rattling off mileage formulas with ease. She worked for Oakland County Mobile Meals as a Social Worker advocating for her senior citizens. After retirement from public life (as she called it), she became an advocate for Community Mental Health, serving on the board of Sanilac County Community Mental Health, eventually serving as Chair. She also sat on the board of the Region 10 Community Services Board.
She was a member of Eastern Star and a member of the State of Michigan Workmen's
Compensation Authority. She was Owner of Village House Antiques in Lexington, Michigan.
Her hobbies were antiquing and politics
She is survived by her daughter, Karen and son in law, Martin Jennings, son, Mark and daughter in law, Ellie Mills, eight grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Eeten and a brother, Donald Mills.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 2:00pm in the Jowett Funeral Home – 1634 Lapeer Ave., Port Huron. Shaun Laurain will preside. The memorial visitation will be from Noon until the time of service at 2:00pm. The burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery.
A luncheon will be held immediately after the service in the Jowett Funeral Home Reception Center.
