Eric Charles Gough
May 7, 1962 – January 31, 2023
With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of Eric Charles Gough. He passed away peacefully on January 31, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.
He was a proud and dedicated Assistant Chief (retired) for the Department of Homeland Security with US Customs and Border Protection. He went on after retirement to an additional career as an instructor for the Department of Defense. He gave over 25 years of his life to serving his country. He was a dedicated professional known for his strong work ethic, commitment to justice, unwavering sense of duty, and protection of our nation's borders. Eric's leadership skills, faith, and compassion earned him the respect, admiration, and commendations of his colleagues and those he served.
As much as Eric accomplished in his professional life, his greatest passions were his faith in Jesus and devotion to his wife, children, siblings, and mother. However, we all know his most outstanding achievement was being "Eppa" to his wonderful grandchildren. They truly adored him. He was a man of strong Christian character and integrity and lived a life filled with genuine love, laughter, and great joy. He shared his life and love for Christ with everyone he met. Eric will be remembered not only for his excellent skill at all he accomplished but for his infectious smile, kindness, generosity, and warm spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Eric touched the lives of countless people and left a lasting impact on everyone he met.
He left behind a legacy of service, devotion, and love. He was an excellent example of living a life committed to Christ. He will forever be remembered for his selflessness and unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and country. Eric has entered the rest and peace of where He was created to be, in the arms of Jesus. May his memory live on in the hearts of those he loved.
His memorial service will be Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Omps Funeral Home in Winchester, Virginia, beginning at 11:30 am, with a reception immediately following the ceremony.

I met Eric in Yuma years ago, and he treated me and everyone else with respect. Years later, I had the honor of working with Eric at BP headquarters. He was kind, hard-working, humble, and always had a smile on his face. It seems like it was just yesterday that I went to his retirement party and met his family. It is hard to believe that he is gone. My sincere condolences to his family and loved ones.

I knew Eric from working with him in Yuma, AZ. He was a humble and kind agent and man. Everybody that knew or met him was better for it. Rest in peace, amigo. My condolences to his loved ones that lost a good man.

One of the first people I met when I came aboard at Border Patrol HQ in 2016, Eric was one of the nicest men I have ever met. He never missed a chance to offer assistance to anyone he thought might need it. He was probably the most cheerful person in the building and always left you smiling.
He was smart, caring, and compassionate. Heaven gained an angel with this one.
Eric, you will be missed.

The word "Hero" is overused and its meaning is cheapened every time we misuse the word. If you want to know what a true hero is, Eric was a hero. Rest in Peace brother. You have truly been a good and faithful servant.

One of the best Journeymen/friends I had when I started out in Yuma so long ago. You showed us all what it meant to be a great agent and a great person. Thank you!
