Frances Rose McGill was born August 12, 1938, to Elizabeth G. Radcliffe in Baltimore, Maryland, and was the second oldest of 2 children. Frances began her formative years of education attending boarding school in Bensalem, Pennsylvania, for Native Americans and Black Children, now known as St. Katherine Drexel Mission Center and National Shrine. Frances finished her primary education, graduating from Dunbar High School in South East Washington in 1956. In 1963 Frances married the love of her life, Frank T. McGill, who preceded her in death. Together they were longtime residents of the Fox Ridge community located in Glenarden, Maryland. The proud parents of 4 children (losing one 2 months after childbirth), Frances and Frank nurtured their family in a well- balanced, loving home. Frances was also the proud stepmother to David E. McGill. If you knew her, you knew Frances had the heart of a giant. Her passion was caring for people, and she parlayed that passion into a career by following her dreams and becoming a nurse. While working full- time as a mother, Frances enrolled in Mary Washington School of Nursing, earning her Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certificate. She worked at Glendale Hospital and then moved to DC Village, where she retired due to an injury. However, her passion for helping others extended far beyond her professional duties. From minor scrapes and scratches to major incidences in the neighborhood, you could always find Frances front and center, willing to assist. Frances, a faithful member and servant of the Catholic faith was a longtime parishioner and choir member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Landover Hills, Maryland. Because of her love for the Virgin Mary, Frances was a longtime Sodalist and two-term Prefect for St. Mary’s Sodality. She also worked with other Sodalist at the Catholic Charities for Mount Carmel House of the Archdiocese of Washington. Additionally, she volunteered at the Catholic Student Center on the University of Maryland campus, where they provided meals for the Catholic student body. In later years, Frances became a parishioner and choir member of St. Edwards of the Confessor Catholic Church in Bowie, Maryland. A woman of strong faith, Frances was never ashamed to express her belief in God and pray with those in need. Frances is preceded in death by her husband, Frank T. McGill, son Kevin McGill, mother Elizabeth G. Radcliffe, and sister Patricia Harris. She is survived by her daughter Celeste A. McGill; daughter Lynn M. McGill; son Shaun (Anita) McGill; grandchildren Deneya McGill, Kevin C. Doby, Maya D. McGill, Thomas D. Proctor, Asahni L. Proctor, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and family.
