Frieda Lindburg, 74, died October 24, 2022, in Hutchinson. She was born in Emporia, Kansas, on September 12, 1948, to Cliff and Maxine (Parker) Lindburg. The Lindburgs moved to Hutchinson in 1952. Frieda graduated from Hutchinson High School in 1966, where she was active in choir and tennis. She studied music education at Southwestern College, was inducted into Mu Phi Epsilon, and was one of ten semi-finalists for the Wichita Symphony Orchestra's Naftzger Young Artist Auditions and Awards. Frieda taught junior high music before moving to Munich Germany to attend the Munich Music Academy.
She was a prolific performer, known for her veracity and tenacity, singing some of the most difficult leading soprano roles, her favorites being Abigaille in Verdi's "Nabucco" and Rosalinde in Strauss' "Die Fledermaus". Frieda also performed as a soloist with symphony and church orchestras, including Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Requiems by Brahms, Faure and Verdi, and Haydn's Creation. During her opera career, Lindburg performed with the State Opera of Kiel, the Opera Houses of Trier, Augsburg and Saarbrucken, the Offenbach Theatre, the Winterthur (a premiere opera tour of France), and the Heidenheimer Festival, which was featured on German National Television's "Aspects of Culture".
Frieda returned to the United States in 2005, and enjoyed a post-retirement career as a dog trainer, active in the Hutchinson Kennel Club. She also joined the First Mennonite Church, where she participated in the choir and was featured as a soloist many times.
Frieda is survived by: sister, Ann Lindburg, Hudson, Colorado; aunt, Billie Lindburg, Tulsa, Oklahoma; cousins, Datha Lindburg, Lindsborg, Carol Jean Martin, Sharon; cousin, Kim Harper, Ellsworth; and others.
She was preceded in death by: her father, Cliff Lindburg; mother, Maxine (Parker) Lindburg; brother, Kirk Lindburg; and uncle, Merl Lindburg.
Memorial service will be 10:30 am Saturday, November 5, 2022, at First Mennonite Church, Hutchinson, with Pastor Sara Blodgett officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. Friends may sign the book from 9 am to 5 pm daily at Elliott Mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Cancer Council of Reno County or Hutchinson Kennel Club, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
