Ann Bowman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Elliott Mortuary & Crematory - Hutchinson on Sep. 26, 2025.
Ann Bowman, age 82, passed away peacefully in Inman, KS, after a courageous journey with Parkinson's disease, surrounded by her loved ones.

Ann's early years were spent on a family farm in rural Gove County. Alongside her three siblings, she attended a one-room schoolhouse and helped with daily farm life. These humble beginnings laid the foundation for the generous, resilient, and compassionate woman she would become.

She attended Quinter High School where she met future husband, Larry Bowman. The two began dating when she was a student at Southwestern College in Winfield, KS.

Ann and Larry married in 1965 and headed to Colorado where Ann worked with children as a social worker.

Two years later they moved to Alaska, embarking on a 23 year grand adventure!

Ann and Larry raised four children in Sitka. Ann was active in the United Methodist Church as a Sunday school teacher and pianist, led girl scouts and could often be found making taco boats in the Little League concession stand. She continued her work with children as a preschool teacher. Being so far from family, Ann and Larry developed deep relationships with friends who became like family.

Despite the miles, Ann maintained a strong and loving bond with her Kansas siblings.

Returning to Kansas in 1990, Ann and Larry settled in Hutchinson, where Ann pursued her dream of higher education. She earned a second bachelor's degree from Bethel College, followed by a Master's in Social Work from Washburn University – accomplishments that reflected her deep compassion and commitment to others. She dedicated her career to advocating for the vulnerable, especially elders and children, through her work with SRS, hospice and the CASA program.

She served as an active member of Community Church of the Brethren in Hutchinson.

Family was Ann's greatest joy. She cherished her grandchildren – spending time together and encouraging them in their activities and expression. She loved music, chocolate, sunflowers and the beauty found in life's little things. In retirement, she and Larry traveled together. They recently celebrated 60 years of marriage – a testament to their enduring love.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her devoted husband, Larry, and their four children, Heidi Bowman, Bret Bowman (Jerri), Jill Bowman (Micah Alton), Kirk Bowman (Brooke). Her legacy continues through her treasured grandchildren -- Daniel and Neve Pospisil, Annalea Bowman-Lopez (Ulises), Takoda, Angelica and Liam Bowman, and Adysen Norton – each of whom brought her great joy. Ann is lovingly remembered by her dear siblings John Hefner, David Hefner (Virginia), and Barbara Hefner.

A memorial service celebrating Ann's life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Community Church of the Brethren, 1600 N. Severance St., Hutchinson. Cremation has taken place. A private family inurnment will follow at a later date in Quinter cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Friday, October 3, 2025, at the church. Friends may also sign the memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Joy Animal Sanctuary in Maize or CASA of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
