Halvard Allen Carey, age 76, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 in his home in Cedar City, Utah. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 4, 1948 to Afton Cheel Carey and Maurice Myron Carey, Jr. He spent his early years in Salt Lake City; until, when he was 8 years old, his family moved to the community of Eskdale, Utah where he would grow up.

After graduating high school, he moved back to Salt Lake City and took work as a cabinet maker. He also soon would marry Janice Pullan in 1970 in Salt Lake City. They had five children together, but later divorced. Advancing his knowledge in construction, Allen was employed as a city building inspector for West Valley City. Allen was a skilled professional and a hard worker. Later, he was hired as a building inspector by the city of Henderson, Nevada; and in 2009, as the city Plans Engineer for Blue Springs, Missouri.

While working in Missouri, Allen met the love of his life, Mary Patricia O'Leary. They were married on September 22, 2012 at Blue Springs Lake. In 2016, Allen retired, and he and Mary decided Utah would be a nice place spend their remaining years; and they moved into a beautiful home in the mountains around Cedar City, Utah.

Allen loved spending time in the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking and horseback riding. He also spent many hours on wood working projects. Allen had a love of cars. He really enjoyed the experience of driving a nice automobile. He created a large collection of diecast model classic cars to decorate his home. He was also a skilled musician. He started to learning to play the violin at a young age, and as an adult took great pleasure in listening to and playing classical music. His greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Allen had a great sense of humor and loved to tell jokes. His spirit of fun and laughter will be deeply missed.

Allen is survived by his wife: Mary Smith-Carey; children: Justin Carey, Bryce (Jenice) Carey, Michelle (Travis) Thompson, Jaimie (Stephanie) Carey, Troy Carey; 9 grandchildren; sisters: Virginia Howells, Laura (Serge) Duquenoy, and Marlyn (Mike) Reardon. He is preceded in death by brothers: Maurice Myron Carey III, and Richard Edward Carey; and a granddaughter: Michealla Carey.
