Herman Voxland was born on November 2, 1937, in Lessor Township in rural McIntosh, MN to parents Alfred and Loraine (Brokke) Voxland.  He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural McIntosh.  Herman attended the Hillside country school through the 8th grade.  He traveled there in winter using wooden skis, as any full-blooded Norwegian would.  Country school came with shenanigans such as trapping muskrats on the way to school and pouring water on the adjacent steep road so they could slide down it in the winter. This created a bit of a traffic hazard for passing vehicles.  He completed high school in McIntosh, graduating in 1955.

Herman’s first job after high school was hauling dynamite for the summer on the iron range.  Eventually, he became a millwright, but his love of the land brought him back to the farm in McIntosh.  In 1958 he enlisted in the North Dakota Air National Guard in Fargo, where he fueled the F89 Scorpion jets of the world famous “Happy Hooligans”.  This began a lifelong passion for flight and he would soon get his pilot’s license.

On August 12, 1967, he snagged the new teacher in town, ReMar L Argent, and they were blessed with 56 years of marriage.  They raised 3 children on their small grain farm north of McIntosh.  He retired from farming in 2010.  Herman served the Lord by being active in his church; serving as treasurer, trustee, cemetery sextant, and did the heavy snow removal for over four decades.  He also served on the Lessor Township Board in various capacities.

Herman enjoyed helping his neighbors with welding, custom repairs, and troubleshooting.  Hunting, fishing, snowmobiling with friends, reading, listening to Daniel O’Donnell, and cheering on the Minnesota Twins occupied his free time. He loved an early sunrise, hot coffee, cold watermelon, green tractors, and clean wheat fields (often commenting on the golden stubble).  He had an adventurous and compassionate heart. Herman will be remembered for his dimpled smile, quick wit, sneaky wink, whistling, and giving airplane rides. More than anything, Herman loved his family and he worked hard to support them and to make the world a better place.

Herman Voxland passed away on August 13, 2023, at age 85, after a hard-fought battle with Mesothelioma.

Survivors include his loving wife ReMar Voxland, daughter Stephanie Voxland (Jim Rothers) of Iowa Falls, IA, son Shane Voxland of McIntosh, son Ryan (Anya) Voxland of Mound, MN

Grandchildren include Michael Galland of Iowa Falls, IA, and Jack and Elle Voxland of Mound, MN. Also surviving are his brother John (Joyce) Voxland of Forest Lake, MN and multiple cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Herman was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Owen.

Herman loved to go for an evening ride ‘around the block’ to check on crops, look for wildlife, and take in God’s creation.  The Voxland family invites you to take a back road home tonight in Herman’s memory.
