Jack R. Heyd

Jack Reinhold Heyd, 77, a proud Vietnam Veteran, passed away on January 11, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. On October 18, 1945, Alvin Heyd and Matilda (Weber) Heyd welcomed their son, Jack, into the world. Jack grew up in Mobridge, SD, with his siblings Viola (Charlie) Galusha, Richard Heyd, Shirley (Eddie) Schaeffer, Sharon (Dennis) Boschee, and Karen Heyd.
At 18, he enlisted and proudly served the Army as a radio specialist in the HHB 25th Artillery Division reaching a rank of SP5, E5. As part of this service, he earned several honorable medals. Jack was honorably discharged in 1966, and continued his career in Aberdeen with Hub City Iron.
He met and married the love of his life, Mavis Moser, in 1967. They continued their journey together operating South Main Mobile. Jack was a valued employee at Hedahl's Auto, Gopher Motors, and Twin City Fan. Jack's faith in Jesus Christ was so evident in how he interacted and treated others. He was known for serving others selflessly both in his church, with auto repair issues and tree and snow removal. Jack enjoyed deer hunting, Saturday morning coffee with friends, woodworking and camping with his family.
Jack is survived by his wife, Mavis (Moser) Heyd of Aberdeen, SD; three daughters, Debby (Daniel) Johnson of Sioux Falls, SD; Michelle (Mark) Gierach of Sioux Falls, SD; and Jackie (Michael) Martin of Rapid City, SD. Jack also had eight wonderful grandchildren; Grace and Rhett Johnson; Ethan, Jonathan, Anthony, and Charles Gierach; Emma and Miles Martin.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Matilda Heyd and his brother, Richard Heyd.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials in honor of Jack. They can be sent to Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Inurnment will be at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, SD.
