It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jack John Pawela. Born on November 22, 1930, Jack left us on February 27, 2024. Known for his passion for life, Jack will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege to know him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia Pawela, his devoted daughter Lisa Pawela Mulrooney (Byrne), and his sons Christoper Pawela (Daniel Herrig) and Michael Pawela (Genevieve), granddaughters Bridget and Kelly Mulrooney, Olivia and Amanda Pawela.
Prior to moving to Indian Rivers Estates, Jack was a regular parishioner of Our Lady of Peace (St. Mary's) Williamstown NJ, where he was a cherished member of the church. His faith was an integral part of his life.
Jack was a man of simple pleasures. He loved a good cheeseburger, a fondness that occasionally put him at humorous odds with his loving wife, Pat. He held a particular passion for historical books but his last and favorite was 'Finished Business' by Ray Didinger, a fellow diehard Philly sports fan. A lover of Polka music that launched his short reign as the Mardi Gras King of Camden NJ and also the setting for his chance meeting with Patsy Connolly (later his wife), Jack attempted to pass along his Polka skills to his granddaughters with limited success. Before meeting Pat, Jack toured the world as a Navy seaman aboard the USS Tarawa serving his country with honor. In his later years, Jack spent most evenings relaxing in front of the TV watching his beloved Philadelphia sports teams or the educational programming of the History Channel.
Fervently supportive of the Philadelphia Eagles, Jack was a season ticket holder for many years, first with his father-in-law at Franklin Field and then with friends at The Vet. He was a great baseball player back in the day, coming very close to making it to the minor leagues. His love of sports defined much of his leisure time and he stayed active with competitive games of tennis, pickleball and then shuffleboard.
When it came to relaxation, Jack loved bodysurfing and sunbathing at the Jersey Shore and was a frequent visitor to the Holiday City Clubhouse. He could be seen in the pool playing volleyball in the summer or organizing tennis and pickleball games.
With twinkly blue eyes as dazzling and bright as his personality, Jack brought joy and light to those around him. His unwavering optimism and vitality, kind heart, and his dedication to those he loved will be missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire us all.
