James Lamar Harris

James Lamar Harris age 78, of Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia went home to be with the Lord Thursday morning, October 12, 2023. Lamar was born in Ringgold, Georgia to the late William Scott and Ella Mae Allen Harris. He grew up in the Ringgold community and was a proud graduate of Ringgold High School – Class of 1963. His first job was at Ray's Market in Ringgold. Lamar went to college at Jacksonville State University and was a proud member of The Marching Southerners Band, where he played the trumpet. He went to work at Western Electric/Bell South/Southern Bell/ATT where he earned the name as "Baby Huey," he retired after twenty-nine years of service. Retirement did not last long; Lamar went to work at Lowe's Improvement Center in Fort Oglethorpe for twelve years. Lamar enjoyed making custom corn hole boards and had made them for the past 12 years. If you ran in to Lamar, he'd ask: "Hey, do you play corn hole?" chances are, you would be buying a set of boards very soon. Lamar enjoyed bowling and was in the Chattanooga Bowling Hall of Fame. Lamar's passion was his family, coaching all three of his children in recreation ball, serving in the concession stands, working on the fields, keeping the score books, announcing the games, anywhere and everywhere he could support his children he was there. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by an infant grandchild, great-grandson: Jax Little, sister: Shirley King and brother: Charles Harris. He is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years: Sandra Franklin Harris, their children: Lorri Harris (Mark Guider) of Dalton, GA, Jeff (Regenia) Harris, Jason (Jeanne) Harris all of Ringgold, GA, grandchildren: Joshua Little, Brittney Little, Ryan Harris, Mark Harris, great-grandchildren: Jerika Long, Bailey Long, Emma Elrod, several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday from 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Saturday morning after 11:00 am until the service. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm – Saturday – October 14, 2023 in the chapel with his son Jeff Harris officiating. A private burial service will be held at Lakewood Memory Gardens-South, Rossville, Georgia.
