James E. Murray

James Edward Murray, age 89, of Poughkeepsie, passed away at home on August 14th surrounded by loved ones.
James was born in New York City on February 9, 1933, the son of James and Kathryn (Connolly) Murray.
He grew up in Bayside, New York, graduated from Bayside High School and was a member of their track and field team.
James attended college at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY where he received a degree in
Electrical Engineering and was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa Fraternity.
After college, James returned to New York City to work for Sperry Gyroscope while attending NYU Law School.
In 1956, he married the former Marcia Weaver of Albany at St. Teresa's Catholic Church. Marcia and Jim had three children, James, Thomas, and Eileen.
James worked for The Eyre, Mann & Lucas Law Firm in NYC until 1964 when he moved the family to Poughkeepsie and began working for IBM as a Patent Attorney.
He remained at IBM until his retirement in 1993. He met interesting people in his work including the late Steve Jobs. He also enjoyed traveling to many places for work and with his family.
James was an avid golfer and lifetime member of the New York Athletic Club. During his lifetime, he had three holes-in-one, of which he was very proud!
James was predeceased by his son, James, and sisters, Patricia, and Virginia.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Marcia; son, Thomas, and wife, Jadeen, of Rhinebeck; daughter, Eileen, and husband, John, of Cold Spring; and daughter-law, Marilyn, of Gainesville, FL.
Jim is also survived by his four beloved grandchildren, Victoria, Hillary, Allison and James; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A period of visitation will take place from 9 to 11 AM, Monday, August 22nd at Sweet s Funeral Home, Rte. 9, Hyde Park.
A funeral service will follow at 11 AM at the Funeral Home.
Burial will be in the family plot at Calvary Cemetery, Poughkeepsie.
