Joe Arthur Johnston passed away peacefully on March 17, 2023, in Boerne, TX following complications from a stroke in late 2022. Joe was born on January 20, 1935, in San Benito, TX to Tom Arthur Johnston and Lillian Ann Woods Johnston. Joe remained in the San Benito area through high school where he met his one perfect love, Nora Ann Cornelius. They married Dec 6, 1956 and soon began a four year stint in the US Air Force where he served overseas in Saudi Arabia. Following his service, Joe and Nora moved to Kerrville, Texas, in 1960. Joe and his family had vacationed in Kerrville when he was young, and he always wanted to go back.
Joe and Nora raised three daughters and flourished in the Hill Country. Joe worked at Mooney Aircraft, US Post Office, and Texas Parks and Wildlife before going to work at the Wildlife Management Area in Hunt, TX.
Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Nora Johnston (on 12/23/2022) and his parents. His survivors include one sister, Helen Johnston Miller of Harlingen Texas; and his daughters: Lauren Johnston Butler (Dave Butler) of Boerne, Texas, Pam Johnston Spurling (Jackie G Spurling) of Fulshear, Texas, and Tara Johnston Maxey (Greg Maxey) of Uvalde, Texas. He also leaves behind six grandchildren: Christopher Butler, Caty Butler, April Spurling Distler, Austin Spurling, Chance Maxey and Kendall Maxey; and one great grandchild, Nora Joyce Butler.
Following a simple graveside service, Joe was laid to rest in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Kerrville next to his beloved wife, Nora on March 24, 2023. To leave condolences for the family, please visit www.ebensberger-fisher.com. Arrangements with Ebensberger-Fisher Funeral Home of Boerne.
